Ford Not Replacing Head Gasket "Due To Research"

So my dealership informed me today that they aren't able to order the parts to replace my head gasket because Ford wants to do more research. No further details were given by @Ford . I called Ford customer service and they said that no further guidance had been given past 17B32. I don't know much more than that now but I will try and get more info. Has anyone else run into this super lame problem or am I the only one? :jawdrop:

I'd ping @FordService

But they got scared the second it turned out that the head gasket issue was a REAL problem. They haven't posted since January of 2017 here.

There was a thread I can't seem to find anymore.

But if you reach on the front drivers side of the engine where the head meets the block you can feel a tab of thin metal sticking out of the engine. This is the head gasket. If you can feel a Rivet on this tab, it means you have the Rev C gasket.

If you do no feel a large tab, or you find a small one with no rivet, then you likely have the Mustang Gasket.

Ford’s reneging with this FSA? WTH @FordService. I’m dealing with an alleged 1 month wait to even get a pressure test and now this! I’m true blue blooded Ford but if there’s anything behind this I’m going to be looking elsewhere shortly. Let the flame war begin!

I'm with you brother.
This shows how inept the whole HG issue really is.
May decide to move on from this whole saga..

I'm a very positive person. I am going to give Ford a chance. This could all be a misunderstanding. Lets hope I'm right. That being said. This forum (and others) were vocal enough to cause real action on the part of Ford the first time around. I have a feeling that if there is a significant delay in fixing the HG problem now and no new info is furnished, then the groundswell will be immeasurable.

Just like @Hoonigan I have been a Ford devotee for a long time. Don't make me regret that...

I believe this for about zero seconds. There is no chance. My guess, this one guy misunderstood the FSA and believes no parts were necessary if it passed the pressure test.

I think this is much more likely. A big company like Ford takes a long time to do something like an FSA but once they do they are not going to stop it. I think this is a simple communications issue with a simple person answering.

A number of cars here have failed the pressure test without having any other symptoms of gasket failure. TechJessica (can't remember her full user name to link her here) said that these pressure drops were due to problems with the testing equipment used, not the gasket. If that is the case, perhaps Ford is unhappy about providing replacement heads that are not actually needed, and have put a hold on parts while they look into more reliable testing.

My dealer seems to be a bit more up to speed. Be aware that most dealers are not set for doing major engine tear-downs on a daily basis. My dealer has called me a couple of times to discuss the process and has admitted he wants to see how his techs do on the first couple RSs.

For one thing there's the parts issue. First the engine has to have the "cooling system pressure tested and replace the head gasket." My RS is coming up on 2 years, July 2016 delivery, and 8000 miles with no loss of coolent. Is Ford going to authorize a headgasket replacement? "Based on test results, some vehicles may require a cylinder head assembly."

Plus, "additional time may be required to allow the engine to cool prior to performing this repair. In addition, your vehicle will require an inspection to determine if parts need to be ordered."

So, "how long will it take?" By the time your schedule your appointment, maybe a couple of weeks, get your car in, do all the tests, order the needed parts, it could be a 2-3 week process. But, if you haven't "tuned" or "modded" your RS, Ford is going to take care of you.

Let's see how it goes.

I am wondering if mods are going to be a factor with weather HG get replaced or not. My letter from ford didn't mention anything about restrictions. Love to know the hold-up on this OP's repairs. The whole thought of ripping my prestige engine apart is discouraging. uuuuuhhhhhggggg

Did you also notice the first comment? It states "Dealer must inspect vehicle prior to placing any part orders. Please provide additional information on pressure test results and if fluid id in the combustion chamber. Please "retain parts until scrap disposition is received"".

It also says your RS was made in the Kentucky Truck Plant. LOL

Ford's US system has issues with the WFO part of the vin, it was doing the same thing during builds occasionally, people entering their vins to check build date, and it was telling them it was a truck

so i wouldnt fault the dealer for that, just ford system

It also says your RS was made in the Kentucky Truck Plant. LOL

I can't confirm this with Ford but this is what I learned this morning from the service manager at my dealer who is doing the HG fix right now on the RS. Ford contacted him after he received the HG repair kit and told him he needed two emergency parts that were not in the kit to complete the repair. And someone here did mention it in another thread. The high pressure fuel line was one part that should be replaced and the other one I think he said was an O ring on the crankshaft but not sure about that one. I wonder if this is the holdup with parts since these parts are needed to do the job. Bring this up with your dealers service manager but mine will have these parts installed today along with the HG fix and picking it up tomorrow.....hopefully......lol.
