"Update with ease, preloaded USB shipped for $149!" That must be a high quality USB stick!!

Yeah, it was a bit more $ than I expected but it was easy to update the system and it's ran without any issues ever since. By now there should also be a crap ton of offers over on eBay.

IIRC, the 2016s came with SYNC2.

You can check your version by going to Settings -> About.

If you have a 2016 you might have to buy a new USB hub to support car play (android auto uses bluetooth so no hardware upgrade needed)

Unless you have a non-north American car, you have at least Sync 3 v1.0. All NA cars in 2016 were at least Sync 3 v1.0, with later ones shipping with v2.2. As long as you have the Sync 3 hardware you can go all the way up to 3.4 (unofficially) with the Cyanlabs method.

Check out this thread for more details: Unofficial Update- Sync3 v2.2 with Android Auto and...

Updating an 2016 to sync 3 v3 is easy and free from ford, you just need a usb stick.
You do need to create an owners login

I think the $149 is a Nav maps update

That's for updated maps if you use your car nav maps. If not, don't do it, or just get the Cyanlabs update which come with latest maps.
