If you have a 2016 you might have to buy a new USB hub to support car play (android auto uses bluetooth so no hardware upgrade needed)
Unless you have a non-north American car, you have at least Sync 3 v1.0. All NA cars in 2016 were at least Sync 3 v1.0, with later ones shipping with v2.2. As long as you have the Sync 3 hardware you can go all the way up to 3.4 (unofficially) with the Cyanlabs method.
