looks like the head gasket work was never done despite what the seller says.

I'm not going to jump on the auction site and cause any buyer/seller heartburn, but go look at the q&a on https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3o6Voyv9/2016-ford-focus-rs?c=all and then tell me what you think in light of what the Ford service history shows (attached image), please.

maybe my local dealer missed it? maybe the seller is misinformed?

Carfax was listed on the site https://www.carfax.com/vehiclehisto...hGHZaimkh9JkH7fTX8Is04QCt4BV8LZDCG-8O6dyj83_h-2zWPHUDncyksmGx2mggc21whVTV7vfVJA

Apparently the first oil change was only after 3 years. The car never got titled in MD after moving from Texas, potentially because of the track exhaust? Seller stated they don't have the original.
First the seller stated HG was correct from factory and then after being called out the seller stated they had paperwork for the HG so if the buyer was concerned they could/should have requested it.
I don't know why they think HVBOM would somehow be the correct gasket? Magically the only 2016 built in the future.

I would buy one of those adrenaline RSes before this mismatched tire timebomb. Okay maybe a bit of exaggeration there but I personally wouldn't touch it, especially at that price.

Those Ford services are not the head gasket issue. FSA 17B32 is the recall action for that. The "C" gasket is the last correct gasket and has a brass rivet in the extended portion from the front, driver side of the head edge.

What I would do for total peice of mind with that engine: 1) Get a new head gasket installed 2) Get a set of aftermarket pistons and rods to cover any failures that can destroy the block. My rods failed and the motor was toast.

The RS I recently bought the seller wasn't sure if the head gasket had been done by the original owner or not because he had no paperwork. Said that he never had any issues and I checked carfax and a few other reporting sites and none of them had it listed. I called my local dealer, didn't see it at first and after 10 minutes of searching they were able to confirm it had been done. So not every reporting site will show it and some dealers just need to dig a little deeper.

The HG fix was never a recall (also why it can expire) so it wouldn't show up as such but with such low miles it's unlikely that there were symptoms of the incorrect HG. It's a toss up if it was performed and we will never know unless someone wants to comb through the ford service records or physically look at the HG rivet. I agree with bowling, without knowing, it's a hard sell at that price especially given the other odd things about the car

I have sold my car (2016) in 2024, but the carfax for my car showed the head gasket repair:

Date Mileage Vehicle serviced
03/02/2018 3,089 Cylinder head gasket(s) replaced

I did all my own oil changes, so those aren't on there. Only other event in my ownership (non title related) was an engine-powertrain computer/module reprogram (part of a recall).

I can still pull the carfax, and it is sad. I owned the car for 8 years and put 13k miles on it in total. It was my second car and I bike to work, so no need to drive places. The new person that bought it now has 26k on it (13k in two years) and got into a minor accident to the front left. Strangely, it is being serviced at a Nissan dealer. There's a Ford dealer almost across the street. So...maybe they work at Nissan or something.

The are driving and enjoying it. Sucks about the accident but **** happens. I looked up my old ST a while back and found out that it was totaled a month after I traded it and it was a little heartbreaking to see, so I do understand.
