So when checking up on my order, I saw the following:

Has anyone else seen this?

Could someone shed some light on this please?

Maybe has to do with the recall for the hatch problem. New cars were on hold until they came up with a fix. Maybe now they have a fix and will be addressed at the mod center

That's odd considering my build date was 09/26. Why wait all this time when others with later VIN's have already shipped?

Thanks all the same for your input. I also went ahead and sent a PM to the Ford rep. for this forum. If allowed, I'll share what correspondence I can in the event this happens to someone else.

PROGRAM TERMS This program will be in effect through November 30, 2017. There is no mileage limit for this program. AFFECTED VEHICLES Vehicle Model Year Assembly Plant Build Dates Focus RS 2016-2017 Saarlouis August 3, 2015 through September 26, 2016 Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists. REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM In some of the affected vehicles, when subjected to high performance driving conditions (this includes extended time at higher engine speeds, high loads, engine braking, hard cornering maneuvers, and track use), it is possible the engine may experience a low oil level condition due to increased oil consumption. Continued high performance driving with low engine oil level may lead to internal engine damage or catastrophic engine failure. SERVICE ACTION Dealers are to reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) using Integrated Diagnostic Software (IDS) release 102.02 or higher. The new PCM program will more accurately predict oil change intervals under performance driving conditions as outlined above. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. Additionally, an addendum to the owner’s manual supplement, recommending the owner conduct more frequent engine oil level checks, will be included with the owner letter mailing. The addendum is to be inserted in the owner’s manual. OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE Owner letters are expected to be mailed the week of November 14, 2016. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.

I have both. Even if you have had your car for a while if you check Etis you probably have both too. I don't think either is taken care of at the modcenter. I think both are done at the dealer.

Outstanding Field Service Actions
16C13 - BODY CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING
16B43 - POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMMING

Mine was built 9/27, and it is still at the factory, but I haven't seen this come up on my car (yet). Hopefully something like this pops up for my car to explain why it's sitting there so long

SUBJECT: Customer Satisfaction Program 16B43
Certain 2016-2017 Model Year Focus RS Vehicles
Powertrain Control Module Reprogramming

PROGRAM TERMS
This program will be in effect through November 30, 2017. There is no mileage limit for this program.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicle Model Year Assembly Plant Build Dates
Focus RS 2016-2017 Saarlouis August 3, 2015 through September 26, 2016
Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists.

REASON FOR THIS PROGRAM
In some of the affected vehicles, when subjected to high performance driving conditions (this includes
extended time at higher engine speeds, high loads, engine braking, hard cornering maneuvers, and
track use), it is possible the engine may experience a low oil level condition due to increased oil
consumption. Continued high performance driving with low engine oil level may lead to internal
engine damage or catastrophic engine failure.

Dealers are to reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) using Integrated Diagnostic Software
(IDS) release 102.02 or higher. The new PCM program will more accurately predict oil change
intervals under performance driving conditions as outlined above. This service must be performed on
all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. Additionally, an addendum to the owner’s

This bit:

The new PCM program will more accurately predict oil change intervals under performance driving conditions as outlined above...

Additionally, an addendum to the owner’s manual supplement, recommending the owner conduct more frequent engine oil level checks, will be included with the owner letter mailing. The addendum is to be inserted in the owner’s manual.
Leads me to believe that the system will tell you that it is time for an oil change sooner, and that they give you a paper to stick in to the owner's manual telling you to check your oil more often.

Not really a substantive fix, mostly a CYA update for Ford.

I beat the piss out of my car at the track and my oil was still full. I think this is precautionary, maybe they are just making the sensors trigger earlier so you don't go to the track with crappy and/or low oil.

Hey guys, the following is a correspondence between myself and the forum Ford rep. in regards to this issue:

I've heard by a RS owner that the Body Control Module Reprogram (16C13) addresses the Auto Restart, at the moment its ON at start up and you have to turn it OFF.

The reprogram reverses that, now default will be OFF till you decide to turn it ON.

The Power Train Control Module field action number is 16B43

I cannot imagine this is intended as it would change the EPA rated fuel economy.

It has been confirmed by the person who had hers done. I'm doing mine tomorrow at work, so I'll let you know how mine works out.

#22 ·
I understand it may do that, I just can't imagine it's intended. I could see this being seen as an emissions cheat by the government if it isn't on by default...but I'm no lawyer.

Maybe it was just set up initially to pass CAFE, and meet there required goals. I'd welcome the opportunity to chose for myself when to use it.

#27 ·
I sent a message to a friend who does emissions engineering for many of the top car companies. I'll see if he knows if start/stop is part of the EPA calculation.

I just assumed car manufacturers did it to post lower fuel economy numbers, but I could always be wrong. I just don't see why they'd be motivated to include it otherwise.

Perhaps it just accepts what i feel was supposed to be the permanent disable in menus. Which would still be a user changed setting from factory and not effect epa, or it doesn't reset every time you start the car. It isn't required to do that afaik

Just came back from dealer for PCM and BCM update.
PCM went through no problem.
BCM required master key ( i gave them locked key cause joy rides happens and they did notice i have cameras everywhere and the car wash guy was pissed didn't get to joy ride)
I gave them the master key at the afternoon and they tried to update. Tried twice, both show as "BCM : Fail". From the service department, since the BCM is working and no codes mean it is functioning properly so they suspense the software they use have problem.
Anyway, need to wait for them to figure it out before i will go back again.

#38 ·
What do you mean "master key"? Does the RS come with some sort of valet key that prevents reckless joyrides? That would ease my stress by 99% for dropping it off for any service/detailing.

EDIT: replying too quickly, seeing Guajis post now. So it limits to 45 and normal mode, how about any revs restriction?

#37 ·
I went to the dealer today to have the PCM and BCM updated. Auto Start/Stop functions the same as before. I didnt give them the master key, so who knows if the anything was actually updated. My other key limits the car to normal mode and 45 mph.

#41 ·
Hey guys, I did both recalls two days ago. I gave them the master key and absolutely no change with the auto-start stop feature. When you start the car, it is on. So I still need to press the button to turn it off every time.

Now, I noticed that my efficient shift light do not come up anymore on the center console. I just posted a thread about that. Am I the only one?

#42 ·
Went in for my scheduled PCM and BCM updates this morning. PCM went without a hitch and thankfully the shift light is gone. Auto start/stop unfortunately still defaults to the same default working behavior.

My BCM update also failed. The dealer mentioned about 10% of the cars are experiencing that issue and they are waiting for Ford to find a resolution.

My boost gauge now seems to be more accurate. Before it would rarely hit the 3/4 mark though my logger would show pressures in the 22-23 range. It is now hitting the 3/4 mark regularly. No noticeable improvement in power so I don't think it is boosting any different but need to get my logger hooked up and do some testing to verify.

#46 ·
Took mine in today for the updates and they had the same issue with the BCM update failing. Said they would call me when they had spoken to ford.
PCM update worked out fine and now I have pops in normal mode and that annoying economy shift indicator has gone!
Got the winter wheels mounted! Different look!

I logged this afternoon and boost numbers are similar to before but my boost gauge appears more accurate.

I noticed with LC where I was seeing 8-9 psi on the logger previously prior to launch, today I was seeing 9-10 psi in similar ambient conditions after the update. I tested a couple times and the 9-10 psi was repeatable.

I too had the Fail to Update the BCM, updated to the latest IDS software and retried...still failed. Had planned to take it to Ford but now that i see others are having the same issue I'll just wait till they come up with fix..then try again at work.

Means I have to wait a bit before I install my AP and tune from Tune+, I was soooo wanting to get it installed this wk end.:(
