Never minded ford calling other cars "Sports technologies" its a fitting name. If Fords wants to make a sportier trim of one of their cars? Yeah call it an st, as long as it's actually different in a meaningful way. If ford were to make a lowered, single cab 5.0 f150 with a slightly more aggressive exhaust and tune, then I'd be all for calling it the f150 ST. They could make the ST nameplate be the antithesis of their raptor packages. Now for for the "st line" crap? I've always disliked that. Hyundai does it with their "n line" as well. Don't call it that, its jsut confusing. Just make it an aero package and call it something like "performance ground effects option".
I feel like the ST line stuff makes sense in locations where you have insurance restrictions or otherwise with younger drivers. They want a good looking car but insurers won't cover them on an actual Focus ST or it's extremely expensive. Or, their license won't let them drive a car with that much power. In the US, that's not a problem compared to say the UK or Australia.

It's a real shame that Ford isn't renewing the RS. It's a real shame because in addition to no longer having similar cars, we're heading towards a flat era that doesn't provide emotions. We'll be on board flat cars that don't stimulate the imagination. It will also be a problem for those who work on this.

This is probably the closest thing we'll get to an RS for a long, long time. It has the brakes from the ST, 7-speed auto transmission from the ST with flappy paddles, and twin-clutch RDU from the Bronco Sport. It badly needs a big turbo or 2.3L swap as it has 232hp.
