Happy New Year all,

I got an email flyer from Mountune for their engine sale. The high performance long block is the best price I've seen at $9,999 and free shipping. Even better than it was on Black Friday. The normal price is about $13,000. I was considering this at that time since I needed a replacement, but ended up buying the N-1. If the high performance long block had been this price, I might have gone for it instead. It's great for heavy track applications or rally.

Not trying to hate on Mountune but sounds like a cash grab. Get plenty of guys or gals like yourself who say “wow what a good deal” then take in a bunch of orders which they don’t have any blocks in stock to ship, so you wait 8-12 months maybe longer because they’ll say ohh the pandemic blah blah blah while there sitting on your 10k. This isn’t just a mountune rant this is for all the shops that do this.

From what I’ve seen, Mountune has a better track record for getting motors out in a reasonable time because they do the machining in house. I know they’ve been a nightmare at times with backordered exhausts and other products.

Patience is a virtue. They run a business, so you have to reserve your spot.

Last December, my engine spun a bearing ... cylinder 3

June 15th, I paid 50% down and waited on a light weight crank shaft. They scheduled my car for Nov 8th drop off and due to my starter going bad, they ordered a new one from Ford, I got the car back on Dec 18th. Considering the Thanksgiving holiday, this is what I expected.

New short block because my head was still good, they even installed a new set of valves, no charge.

They also installed a quaife differential and rebuilt the transmission which had to be sent out for coating.

It's a different animal now. I'm just breaking the engine in, but turn in is great and there's no more vagueness in the gear box.

If you are interested, I would suggest you get in line, as it isn't going to get any shorter.
