Any idea of how many just in the US? I think it's pretty rare depending on your definition of rare. It was limited worldwide production and, based on what we are hearing for the US, likely the only Focus RS every to be sold new in the US. Possibly ever. I have seen a few in my area but for every Focus RS see a hundred WRX/STI's (everyone in New England seems to own at least one) and quite a few Golf R's.

It is sad that there is less manual cars every year as options, but tbh, if the offered a dct in the rs it would be quick as hell. Probably a 3 to 3.5 second 60mph car. But I believe currently some parts of the US they are skyrocketing, while around me, they fell and have so far plateaued

I agree somewhat. Doesn't the Range Rover Evoque share a similar powertrain set up? Maybe our AWD system will be the norm for all performance based awd vehicles. Either way, who knows who will adopt similar setups in the future and possibly make replacement parts much easier to come by.

For me, I haven't seen one in the same parking lot as me... therefore it's rare. Even with the speed3 it gave me a sense that I had a "rare"car, because i wouldnt see too many of them around. I have yet to see a focus RS on the road since I've had mine, and I've only ever seen one other one on the streets. It does the job of making me feel like i have something special.

Please ignore typos as I just got to work late because I had "Spicy Shin Noodle Soup" last night.... TALK ABOUT SHOOTING FLAMES!
Similar but who knows if the RDU is a drop in unit with the same gearing.

The RDU is the big one to me. I don't think the Evoque RDU is the same thing as the RS RDU in terms of form factor or gearing.

In ~12 years when most have been wrecked, trashed or otherwise ridden hard and put away wet - they will be ‘rare’ in the US like Evos and that’s spretty much best case scenario.

US Evo8’s (also 3 production years) were ~13k total. I’d imagine the RS numbers for US are very similar.

According to a staff comment here: https://jalopnik.com/ford-says-about-27-000-focus-rses-could-have-bad-head-g-1822339880
Total number sold in the U.S. in 2016 and 2017: 8,486. (according to Ford).
Now that's sold, not produced, so add on the remaining inventory and the 2018 production and I figure we're probably somewhere in the 12k ballpark for the US.

Its rare in Toronto, Canada imo. I drive 80km round trip through the city's main hwy every single day, and only see 1 RS every 2 weeks or so. Most of the time I spot it coming from the other direction so cant even give them the friendly wave. Even Focus ST and Fiesta ST are just as rare as the RS.

I'm fine with that though, as I do see STi's, Golf Rs pretty much every day where I consider those cars pretty common nowadays.

It's rare in comparison to mainstream cars, not rare is in a number plated special. I forgot what the worldwide numbers are, maybe 30k world wide? How many of those are USDM?

I almost bought an early Hyundai Excel the other day. Two of the 4 doors were different colors, one wheel didn’t match, and it had 4 mismatched tires

But it ran.. and I know it’s one of the last ones that does..

Iirc, they sold for less than 2k new at the time. I bet a survivor, or even a running bucket will be worth 50k in 10 years. Inflation or rich people with cash to burn will overvalue anything unique.
They were a little more than $2,000 new back then. My parents bought my sister a brad new bare bones Hyundai Excel back in 1986 for just under $5,000. The only option it had was A/C and automatic transmission. It spent more time in the shop than on the road. Hyundai has come a long way since.

Not as "rare" as a MKII RS..................

My last car had a world-wide product of around 5,000 and I didn’t consider it rare.
Under 500 is rare IMO.

I agree, live in Toronto as well. Heck even ST is rare, nevermind the RS. Lucky to see 1 a month. In terms of global production, not really rare. However when you spread a number like 35000 units across a globe, that's peanuts imo.
Figure in all of Canada there is 2 to 3000?

My 2018 is rare! :p

Seriously though, I don't see too many RSs. I tend to only see other RSs when I'm in the wife's Rav4! I think I've seen 5 RSs in Denver, and all 5 sightings were in the RAV4. That doesn't make it rare obviously. But I see a ton of WRXs, STIs, Type Rs and a fair amount of 2010+ Evos (any know the production numbers by generation on these?).

If I had a 2016-2017, I probably would go down the route of some light modifications (tune, intake, etc). But since I went with a new 2018, I am trying to keep it pristine and stock as I believe these cars (all of them) will be highly desirable. Sorry to all the 16-17 owners who needed the HG repair, but the recall probably will help the values of the 2018s and non-recalled vehicles...

Anywayyyyyy, I really don't see too many 10+ year old STIs, Evos, R32s, etc. It's a halo car. The unmolested and unmodified ones will become rare. And Drift Mode is definitely claiming a lot of these suckers!
