Hatch button stopped working, can still open via fob & light switch button

This just started happening... the button doesn't open the hatch regardless if it's locked or unlocked. The hatch button on the fob still works if I press it twice (like it should) as does the button near the light switch up front. I did have an issue with the proximity function but the body shop forgot to plug the antenna in when my rear bumper was replaced. But that's not the issue this time.

The only other thing I can think of is I have a rattle in the sunroof control area that I've tried to stop rattling. Not sure if the wire extends up there or not, but I was messing around up there around the same time this button stopped working. All other hatch functions seem to work fine.

Thoughts?

Bummer... I'm long out of warranty... almost at 50k miles. Oh well, I'll get it fixed.

Throw your fob in the trunk and close it. If it immediately unlatches, then your antennas should be working.

Could be the button if that works. I imagine you can swap it out pretty easily yourself.

Absolutely had it fixed... it was worth paying for. The new button had a slightly different feel to it, hopefully it lasts longer.

Grave digging this thing to post my fix for this stupid cheesy pos button. It is easy to tell if yours is broken in this way, when you push the button you should feel the "click" of the actual button being pressed inside this thing. If it feels mushy and you don't feel or hear the click, it's brokeded

There is a surface mounted monetary push button on a board inside the sealed up "non-serviceable" bullcrap of a rear hatch button/light/camera assy. When you press the hatch release button, it pushes against a plastic part meant to reach through the housing to the silicon where said button lives. See pictures below, first picture is how the inside of the housing looks, second picture is the part that sort of hinges and pushes the button. The tab is thin, and cheap, and pathetic. To prevent future breaking, don't lift rear hatch using the release button.

Did some plastic welding/reinforcing of that little tab and that has fixed my problem. This thing was a real jerk to get into but once I had a small piece of the housing separated I was able to pop off the rest slowly. Glue it back together and presto.

Necro bump since this very exact thing just happened to me while deep-cleaning my car after my 400mi road rally. Along with the cat (which I've gotten the P0420 code right before the rally) I guess it's not the worst that can break after such a long rough trip.

For posterity's sake, here is the p/n for the replacement button+back-up camera as of 10/2024: F1EZ-54432A38-H

Also, he's a handy video of how to get back there and replace the damn thing.
