Focus RS Not selling?

I have been looking at many Focus RS' at dealerships and they have been seeing that they have been sitting on the lot for over 6 months, some even are 16's and they are still on the lot. I'm wondering why are they not selling. Are they asking over MSRP or is there something else causing many not to be sold.

ADM kills many deals. Some dealers are still stuck on the rarity of the FoRS.

Lots of people (from dealers to prospective buyers) don't realize the market has changed.

When I went to the dealer to look at the RS I talked to a random salesman about the car. He said they wouldn't negotiate below $5K ADM. I told him to talk to his manager and he came back and apologized, saying he didn't realize they weren't charging ADM anymore. I ended up buying from the same dealer for over $2K under MSRP.

As Hooligan said, dealers are charging a markup on the "rarity" of a car that every dealer has plenty of.
Those that aren't, probably did at some point and everyone that wanted the car already bought it elsewhere, so they're stuck with inventory.

My dealer wanted a 6k markup on them, and an 11k markup on a dealer modified one (aftermarket wheels, mud flaps, and stickers lol). I bought it at 2k below MSRP at a dealer 30 minutes away and drove it home. I'm a regular at that dealership since our shop's trucks often go for service so they see the lost sale daily as I drive in.

The demographic of car enthusiasts who buy these types of cars are savvy; there are plenty of threads on this forum started by would-be buyers appealing to current owners, picking their brains for info. That same demographic is going to be savvy enough to have been made aware of some reliability issues with the RS. You can bet that's staved off some sales.

Ford had their chance. Now there are 3 other cars people are considering: STI RA, Type R and the 18 Golf R.

And like Hoonigan said some dealers are now using the excuse that only 1000 are coming for 2018. Like I care? You have 10 sitting on your lot.

Once the hype dies down and the "I gotta have it at any price" buyers are out of the picture... sales slow down on cars like this. If dealers aren't willing to haggle on the price, they will have a hard time selling them. I bought mine about a month ago for a little below sticker... that dealer got 3 RS's and had them all sold in 5 days. The only reason dealers have them on the lot for a long time is because their prices are insane.

also because of ADM, many that wanted one, have been discouraged from getting one. they look at the Price+ADM and walk away and dont bother looking at another one

number of people at work and local Car Club have mentioned the price and markup being why they won't get one and in some cases, got an ST instead

Propagated vigorously on the Subie, Honda and VW forums, though. The VW guys sure seem to get butthurt easily.

Candidly I see a good number of new and used RS sitting around at fairly reasonable prices. This one started at crazy price and has dropped 10k into the range of reasonable:

I've talked to local dealers and it appears that they're selling RSes fairly consistently at invoice, frequently to out of state customers who are getting gouged locally. But there are still a lot of listings for new cars that are just sitting there, usually at MSRP or call for pricing.

You are the one that says you have looked an many Focus RSs at dealerships. Did you buy one? It does not appear so. Did you see cars priced over MSRP and the dealer would not haggle? Do you realize that the car has been available for the better part of 12-14 months now and a lot of people have already bought them - either above, at or below MSRP? Why didn't you buy one? Has the comments that the RS has a little bit of a no-compromise seat of the pants feel to it scared you off for daily driving? Not a track guy? Why didn't you buy one? Probably the same reason many other people didn't buy one too. Just not sure what you expect to get on a Forum dedicated to enthusiasts that have all sorts of reasons why they actually purchased the RS.

Saw three at the dealership I took my car to get tuned at yesterday, two NBs and one SG.

No ADMs that I could see, maybe even a little under MSRP....

"Not selling" has been the same for months for stealers with ADM that are ridiculous.

Are people "not buying"?

Please consider:
1. Many bought already.
2. Those who hasn't, might be waiting for an used one, or for some discounts, or for the 18s. many reasons.

some local dealers are still trying to get ADM on 17s.
honestly, the time for markups on RS are gone. especially for canada, i cannot see how they can move 500 '18 RS'es that are priced $10k in MSRP over a '17.
the 'cool' car to get now is the Civic Type R and yes, ADM and public are at a frenzy for those. whatever.

i do also see alot of rs in lots for the pass 6 months. i think the reason for them still around is the dealers ordered too many and the wait was too long. alot of people like me gave up on my first mark up car and just moved on to another dealer with no mark up. also the RS flame is dead. the people who are excited about it already got one or can get one use rather cheap. see ebay. i ordered one last june and the mark up was 3k to 5k in nyc. then in october in nj i was able to order one with no mark up and i got mine in april........when i got mine my dealer got 2 more just sitting around. now. they should be selling below sticker price i think....only highly request one i think should be the limited edition
