A lot. I've read of quite a number of people who ultimately bout a 2016/2017 STI, Golf R, or Camaro/Mustang instead. The Ford dealer network going after ADM coast to coast tainted the car, and definitely tainted our resale value. You want steady consistent pricing not high ADM then thousands off MSRP. That kind of pendulum or swing is no good for the owners, the dealers, nor Ford.
Ford's dealer network f'd everyone in their arse. What's funny and factual, is the Golf R. VW has consistently sold the vehicle at sticker and continues to do so. It's why that vehicle has been stable.

If looking for a RS today, 3k off sticker is where I'd start. Highly optioned RS's, I'd be pushing for $4000-4500 off. These Ford dealers wanna play games, f em, play right back. I bet we see $5-6k off sticker to move them, which hurts resale value significantly. The Ford dealers end up f'ing everybody. They are hazardous to even themselves, the idiots.

There is a good chance that number isn't correct.

I've said this story on here before but my GF was looking for a GLI a little while ago and I told her to email all the dealers that had them on those websites. She emailed like 50 dealers who, according to auto trader and car gurus, had multiple sitting on lots.

The replies she got back were almost all the exact same. "We don't have any but we can order one" or "There is one in Florida, I can trade with that dealer."

So yeah, be careful with those websites.

I ran into that when I used cargurus.com to search for an RS at MSRP. Basically all of them either had a big ADM that weren't advertised or the car was already sold. It was pretty frustrating.

I'm at a local dealer now who has one in their showroom. They've had it for a few months. I'm assuming they still want way too much for it. Their website and cargurus says they have 3 of them but there is definitely only one lol

I think a lot of people gave up trying to buy one after every dealer they called said "yeah we can get you one but it will cost you 5 to 10 over sticker". Nothing kills an awesome car like a stealership. If we could of ordered these directly from Ford with no dealership involved they would all be gone.

Haha, I guess this is what ford gets when buyers were sticker shocked.
I asked a RS driver on a lot one day, and if he would mind telling me how much he paid for the car. It was a blue color RS , just the one I wanted.
He told me he paid around 54k otd.
I was like what!

With that kind of money, I might as well spend a little more and go for a f80 m3.

But in the end, I ended up purchasing a e92 m3 DCt.

Well, thanks for the reminder that paying sticker was stupid of me.

Don't feel too bad I also paid sticker for mine back in March. Right after that I noticed the prices started dropping. Probably could have saved 1000s if I waited and shopped around more.

I'm trying not to sweat it. I avoided the stress of shopping around (stressful for me at least) and I now own an amazing car. Plus it was exact one I built on the Ford site, and I didn't have to wait for it. I have much respect for those who waited for months and months, that must've been rough.

I do agree with everyone else when the say Ford dealerships F-ed themselves. Hopefully they will learn from this.

I'd guess more than half of those listings are bs. Cars that are ordered for customers and not even on the lot.

I know mine landed on car gurus and the dealers own website for sale a few weeks after I special ordered it. Makes for good advertising, but definitely screw people's opinions too.

From experience, most of those sites are listing sold cars, previously sold cars, previously sold cars that they put back on their web site just to generate interest. But yes, some are real cars for sale, but not all.

I don't think large cities are a good representation of the availability of this car. The giant dealers in the big cities got allocated most of the cars. Same goes for me in LA, galpin had ~6-8 on the lot back in January, but after some haggling they got it down to sticker.

I paid invoice, no doc fees...but no one else within 100 miles was willing to pricematch that dealer. Yet, their vehicles are still on their lots. Confusing. The dealer I'd originally ordered from actually guaranteed me he wouldn't sell it below MSRP. Guaranteed. This was ~2 months from delivery. So, instead of getting my business, he'll now be another dealer with one sitting on the lot.

It's confusing. Maybe Ford is mandating that they can't sell below X? Not sure how or why the dealer I bought from was selling at invoice, maybe they're seeing the local market for the vehicle and trying to get theirs off the lot before they have to actually compete with price drops?

What's concerning is the message this sends to Ford. How likely is it we get an RS in the US the next go-around if they aren't selling?

What I get from all of these RS's sitting on lots is this....

In the 2016 model year RS's were hard to find, and dealers had so many people asking for an allocated vehicle. Those early cars were basically sold before they were even made. All of the 3 RS's that made it to my dealership before my car did were all sold out of state instantly. Last year, there was a nervousness that there would be no 2017. There was speculation that Ford make another year but nothing was written in stone until just before the 2017 MY started production...

Fast forward to this year. The buzz has worn off, true. But dealers thought that since demand was so great for this car, they should make hay while the sun is shining. Now they are using their allocations as fast as they're getting them and ordering the RS's as dealer stock.

So now anyone who is interested in the RS goes to a forum or Facebook for research, and finds leaking PTU seals and blown motor threads. I know it's' a low percentage but the internet has a way of magnifying issues. If it's just 1% of the total cars that were made in the last 2 years affected by these issues, it has a way of looking like it's one out of every 3 cars leaking or blowing up.

I imagine that the next go round for the RS(MK4) will be more like the 2016 year again, so dealers won't be stuck with more unsold stock.

I could be wrong though. It's just my opinion.

Also, early in 2016 the magazines were going nuts over this car. Then a bunch of them seemed to have a change of heart, perhaps after driving one with 50psi cold all around, and started backing away from the car as too harsh. It's affected the buzz out there and hence the demand.

I would love to see Car and Driver test one with a tune and proper tire pressures (41F/38R cold) but they don't seem to touch modded cars except very rarely.

Dealer was asking 37 for the rs i recently purchased. Used 2017, interior package, <3k miles. Still fully elligible for the dirt cheap extended warranties. They had been sitting on it atleast a month working the price down.

I my trade (base vw 7r), which had seen 2 years of track time, autox, hooning and a decent chunk of miles fetched a trade difference of roughly paying the 3k sticker difference and 2k per year for use.

7r was an awesome car. This wasnt done for an upgrade. More for the refreshed warranty and dirt cheap extended warranty.

It still smells like new car.

It appears some dealers are still moving them in the Bay Area. The dealer that I got mine from about 2 months ago had 9 at the time. They're down to 2 now. One of the remaining ones is the other black one that some other salesman made a big fuss about us looking at cause "it was sold"... sure was bud, sure!

So you "invoice" buyers are getting's the # from the dealers?, Back in the day dealers would generate bogus invoices too show how small their profit margin was...just saying be careful they are tricky SOB...

I get invoice pricing via Edmunds but it is available from many sources or websites online, widely available. It's not a secret that only the dealers know. There is invoice, MSRP, and holdback money, same as it ever was. I bought my car under invoice, and have seen others do the same. Ford corporate must be offering the dealers some kind of kick back or incentive to move the cars otherwise they wouldn't sell them for this low of price. Sale stagnation is probably key and much of it due to head gaskets, and engine blocks. Ford knows they have some problems.
