EDITING TO SAY ITS BEEN SOLVED <3 MY SOLUTION IS IN THE COMMENTS.

THANK U

Howdy howdy!

I've stalked through the entirety of the forum at this point and wanted to get some second opinions.

As the title says, I'm having a strange issue at idle that recently appeared.

After cold starting in below freezing/freezing temperatures, and after about 20 seconds, my RPM starts to bounce from super low (~400) to like 800-1k and then back down until eventually the bounces get smaller and smaller and my car stalls.

It seems to go away if I ride her heavy, and then she idles perfectly fine.

But if I turn the vehicle off and leave for a couple hours and come back, the issue reappears.

On top of that, it kind of sounds like I have a burble tune without having a burble tune.

Way too many pops if I feather the pedal at 4k RPM in 3rd/4th gear and up.

I'm about to see what I need to conduct a smoke test/have my local shop do it for me if it's too complex for me to do.

I'm also going to throw her up on a lift probably tomorrow so I can get to and clean the MAP sensors.

Some technical stuff: My MAP sensor was bouncing from 5 to 14 when my RPMs were bouncing. And my VFR (The fuel ratio, I might have gotten the acronym wrong) was bouncing from 12 to 22 before it stalled.

I'm about 90% sure it's a physical airflow issue seeing as I followed somebody's advice on the forum and reset my ECU/KAM and waited to see if she would start doing the jumping again.

What's super annoying is the fact that there's no code for me to check in the service manual, or even research to begin with.

I would appreciate any insight, thoughts, advice, wild guesses, conspiracy theories, etc.

Thanks guys!

You've got a idle surge. Start with the basics: check air filter cleanliness, air inlet hoses for leaks, clean throttle body. Next time you fill up, add injector cleaner to fuel. How old are the spark plugs?

Have you checked the pcv valve? They are known to go bad and cause a bunch of weird issues. Also if you still have an OEM battery I would look into a replacement. The O2 sensors and the hpfr sensor are all on the same circuit so voltage issues can cause all types of idle hell.
