Ah, CMP, that place has claimed a couple sets of my Hoosiers.

Considerate guy (no sarcasm). I did my first wheel-to-wheel a month or so ago with a Lemons race at CMP. It was a crazy experience being on track with 100 other cars... but I managed to not hit anyone or get any black flags so I'd call it a success. I think it's easier than autocrossing though. Physically a lot more demanding, but technical skills-wise it's easier.
Even technical wise it's really not. Having to constantly adjust speed and line yet be near the limit the entire time is much harder IMO than learning an autocross line and finding the simple rhythm, etc. I used to be top 5 FTD (not PAX, but raw times) with a 90hp Isuzu Pickup truck though locally so if you can drive that fast driving a Miata or something like that fast in autocross is pretty easy haha

And LeMons at CMP years ago caused us to lose a solid 3rd place finish because LeMons follows idiotic rules and gave me a penalty with 20 minutes left in a race for going 4 off to *AVOID* a collision in front of me. We talked them out of it but the 5 minute delay cost us some spots. And I had no clutch so having to be push started was awesome too..

That was the last time I've run LeMons.

What type of vehicle were you in? And was it your own?
944. I don't own it but I spent about 100 hours making it so...

I had no clutch my last time out and the car was stuck in 4th. We had to push start the car in 4th to get the last stint done, so I feel your pain.

I was reading this thinking, "I totally agree, road racing really isn't as h... Oh, he was describing road racing."

On a typical course you're nowhere near the limit maybe 50% of the lap, unless you're in a crazy fast car. On an autocross course even in my lowly Miata you're at the limit of traction 100% of the time. Plus on track I feel like I have light years to make a decision or think about the next corner.

I guess YMMV.

Autocrosses here tend to be out and back runways, so 100% traction isn't going to happen nearly 100% of the time. I was excluding straights in both types of events though, placement of the vehicle is just as important in both and speeds are much lower in autocross which lets one recover from mistakes much easier and cost less in time (assuming no cones ;) ). Passing cars (or being passed) while making sure you have a good line through the corner and preparing for the next pass is far more technical to me than 1/8" off every cone, rinse and repeat.

It's 1599kg with drvier and luggage, the EU makes them add 75kg for a driver and luggage.

1524kg = 3360lbs

Where is the 3360 lb coming from? I see 1599 kg.

Considering the article cited the weight originally in kg, I suppose that it would probably be Euro. Good catch.
Definitely Euro spec. I'm still expecting 3400lbs +/- a handful in US trim.

US curb weight also isn't the minimum. It's based on the weight that some percentage will sell at, I think 30% or something like that since it's just one model. So if they figure 30% or more will sell as RS2, or with the moon roof, etc the curb weight will reflect that set of options.

Door sticker on RS1 at SEMA was showing GVW of 4360 lb. Remove 150 lb/seat and 200 lb for cargo and at 3410 lb.

No I'm not. Ignore the url name (it is not meant to be an insult but instead a reference) and click the links and you'll see where I got 990lbs from.

Not following... are you being overly picky that I mistaking used GVW instead or GVWR? Also, why 990 lb off instead of 950 lb?

Ah, I see. Thanks. Maybe they upped the average passenger weight to 170 lb instead of the 150 lb for main seats I last saw years ago to account for a "fatter America" theses days. I would love an updated break down of that 990 lb.

I'm sure you guys have seen the 3460 lbs has been confirmed on the official ford answers thread. An additional 100 lbs over EU spec, maybe that's what the extra 5 hp is for. If it is we get ripped off by 5 hp still lol (345/3360*3460=355 hp)
