My solution for an out of the way garage door opener

It boggles my mind that my old ST or my new RS did not come with any sort of HomeLink/Car4U capability to open my garage door, so I kind of put together my own solution here with the help of my neighbor and his soldering skills.

Brought him over one of my openers and he soldered some wire onto the button's contacts so I could use my own momentary switch to activate it. I then made a bracket and stashed it underneath the center console boot along with the opener itself down in there.

Works really well! I just need to push against the bottom-left of the boot and it activates open/close. I spent the most time with this making sure that shifting into 2nd gear doesn't push against the button or the bracket i made for it, works great!

That is a great idea. A lot easier and cheaper to install than one of those rear view mirrors with the garage door opener buttons on it (which took up a better part of a day to install),

I've got the chamberlain app as well but unlocking the phone, going to the app, authenticating, then opening.. ah well, I didn't post this saying "have to do it this way", just presenting an option over buying the mirror with controls or whatever

When my phone is in the car or truck, it is usually playing music and always on the home screen so it is unlocked. I tap the Chamberlain app, then the garage door icon and the door opens. No authentication necessary as I have chosen auto login on the app. So just have to tap the phone twice to open the door. Same for the Apple Watch. Two taps on my watch and the door opens. And this is from anywhere in the world I have cellular service. I don't have to be in the general area of my home. Chamberlain is working on Home Kit compatibility right now so soon all you will have to do is ask Siri to open the door for you.

I'm curious how hard it would be to modify @MorningZ 's design for RS1 owners to use an RS2 button panel in the center console and re-purpose the heated wheel button to activate the garage open/close. If the heated wheel is a momentary button. Granted it's more costly to get RS2 button panel than OTS button and bracket.

A gotcha on the Siri thing, she won't do it unless the phone is unlocked. That would work for your situation, great.

btw, Chamberlin has been promising HomeKit support for years now, but if you have a computer running 24/7 you can run "HomeBridge", it turns almost anything into HomeKit-able (like Chamberlin and Nest)

The first thing to note is that HomeLink is not a standard. It is a proprietary system that works only with certain brands of garage door openers. That means that your garage door opener, and the HomeLink device, must be the same brand. Also, your garage door opener must be compatible with the HomeLink programming system. Anyway, in this question, I would advise you to work with the best gate experts to help you integrate a HomeLink system in your car that will be compatible with the garage door opener.
