Never got my 350R. Still salty about it. I had a 16 locally with 5k mi for $54k pre-covid. Thought my trade value was too low, like $3k. walked... Next was an 18 with 900mi at a dealer. Had it posted for $80k. Emailed the dealer and asked for a real price. This was pre covid. $80k was a bonkers number on a $65k car. Sent me a $63k price via email, RACED down there to buy it. Then tried to tell me the price was $80k and that was an accident. Then, this GORGEOUS red 350R at that dealer. Had sold my RS, was ready to go with a big downpayment. Then this dealer was shady.
I think I came to the same realization. You can drive these cars at 7-8/10 on the street, in the canyons, in the winter, and they're FUN. I put my foot down in my SL65, and I'm going 100mph. Same with the ZL1 1LE that I've had on order for over a year. Amazing cars, just not practical.
I think for like $25-35k, I could get back into a solid RS. Do some suspension work, maybe add a bit of power, sort the RDU for track use, and have plenty of left over money for track time and all the wheel/tire combos. Then, when the time comes in 2-3 years, get into a GRC then an FL5 CTR. My FK8 CTR was so fun on track. And it was actually more practical then the RS. Just a better designed hatch space, more comfy seats, better driver interface. But I live in CO and even with snow tires, these FWD cars aren't great.
I had a dealer with a loaded GRC Core in VA for $5k over sticker and was ready to pull the trigger, then they pulled the "you're out of state" card and said they needed to charge me another $2k in accessories. I would be trading in my 22 TRD Pro 4Runner, and they were $5k low on it, which is fair given that market is very different then CO. Plus shipping, and no security they wouldn't drop the value of my 4R by $5k after I spend money to get it to VA.
