This week We were looking back at some old EBC Brake photos and brochures from 'days gone by' which then got us talking about the first vehicles we all owned (some of these can be seen in our new 'Taking a Break' YouTube series Taking a Brake with the EBC Team | Episode 1: Group CEO, James Hallett - YouTube

So, the question We have is what was the first vehicle you owned and what was so special or, not so special about it?
Was there anything 'quirky' about it? Did it have a name? Did you do any special upgrades to it?

We would love to see photos of your first vehicle and will be sending some free EBC goodies (Cap, Mug, Pen, Lanyard, you know the sort of things!) to a randomly selected forum user at the end of the week.

Get searching for those old photos in those attics/lofts/garages/under parent's beds or just on your phone or computer if you are from the younger generation.

We can't wait to see what you all used to drive, and I am sure occasionally push!

My first car was a Renault GT Turbo Raider with the colour coded wheels. No real modifications to be done so kept it standard, which in those days was more than enough. I wish I still had it as it would have made me a small fortune......

1966 Mustang Coupe. 302 with a top loader 4 speed, 9 inch rear.
My dad brought it home as a total basket case and taught me how to build a car by tearing it down to the unibody and building it back.
Feel the awesome early 90's power in this photo...

This is the only photo I can find of my first car, and it's a garbage crop from an old avatar. I think maybe there's a couple others floating around on an old dead computer or in one of my parents' attics, but I kind of doubt it.

A silver/grey 1990 Integra RS

I bought it in 2004, a few months after I turned 16 for $3,500. I still remember the parts list: GSR Wheels, custom cat-back, AEM cold air intake, Koni Yellow shocks, JDM one-piece headlights, JDM side markers, H&R Sport Springs, VIS carbon fiber hood, DC headers, short shifter, Kenwood deck and speakers.

After a couple years of playing Gran Turismo, watching street race videos, and detailing/washing cars to save money I had a cool car of my own.

It was burning oil when I bought it and got worse in the few months that I drove it. If I remember correctly it also needed a new distributor because it kept dying on me when it got hot out. It became apparent that the car had been ran hard and the engine was on its way out.

It was a doomed car. The day I brought it home my girlfriend broke up with me, and a few months later she accidentally backed into the front and ruined the hood. Within a week of it getting backed into the first time it got backed into again by a friend's mom, which totaled the car. I even parked across the street completely off the road.

Anyway, I loved the car for what it was and I spent a great summer cruising around in it before it got totaled. I bought it back and used the parts on a different Integra I bought a couple weeks later. I kept it on jack stands and dismantled it to learn how to work on my other Integra. Eventually it got winched onto a flatbed and sent to the junk yard.

There is a certain combination of smells that throws me right back to that summer, being 16 cruising around Washington in it chasing my friends. Specifically the old Honda smell (I think it's the seat fabric and foam they used) that got really strong on hot days, the smell of evergreens blowing in the windows, and a hint of burning oil. A few years ago I was driving an older Accord with the windows down and closed my eyes just for a second. It was like being in a time machine.

1972 volvo 142s. Offensive to every sense but it cemented volvo in my heart. Always afraid to own another though

@hydrostream I also had a DA. Loved that car also had the jdm one piece (best visual mod to that car by far). Sold it and the next owner wrecked it the same month. Broke my heart

That seems to be the fate for a lot of those cars I think. Nice Integras are total unicorns these days.

I learned to drive in my mom's 2001 V70 2.4T and my wife drove a 2001 S60 all through high school and college until it gave up on her and we bought her a new car. My mom owned her V70 for almost 15 years and it was very good. I love Volvos, unfortunately they're that oddball I'm always rooting for but they don't offer quite what I'm looking for.

Clearly from back in the 80's, I was a Ford hot hatch fan even then, with my 1986 Escort GT...

...I eventually put an Ansa exhaust, MSW wheels, and some lowering springs on it. (Ate up the tie rod ends, though.)
My mom still had her 1983 WV GTI, and the Escort couldn't hold a candle to it. The Escort's rear suspension gave some weird toe changes through its suspension travel, which made hard cornering really spooky. It also pitched around on its suspension more than my mon's car. It was cheaper - all I could afford at the time, so I have no complaints. It was reliable. Sold it in 1990 and bought a VW Corrado.

My first car was a 1992 Plymouth Sundance (Dodge Shadow) that I bought from my grandfather when I was 15. Bought it for $500 (which is ALOT of money for a 15 yo in the 90's) I earned from doing odd jobs for family and around the neighborhood. It was nothing special, but it meant freedom for me. It took me to the mall without needing to walk or take the bus, took me to the movies with my friends, hauled my drum set to band practice and took me the woods and up and down the coast for camping. Most special was that it allowed me to finally participate in local motorsports. My choice: rallycross!

Fast forward a couple years later: It was the early 00's, I was bit hard by the import tuning/gran turismo/F&F bug, so I worked my butt off bussing tables nights and weekends to get me some hot import action. I could not afford any of the popular options (EK hatch, RX7, Supra, etc) but what I was able to afford was this 1996 Acura Integra LS. It was clean, mechanically sound and "stylish" enough for my high school aspirations back then.

When it was time to leave for college, it was time for me to part ways with it, so I sold it to my cousin. Twenty years later, I come to hear from my cousin that my aunt/his mom wanted it gone and was planning on having kars4kids come pick it up. I said F-it and told him I'm coming with cash in hand. Was very surprised at how good of a condition it still was! Very much enjoying slowly restoring it and getting it sorted.

@hydrostream I know EXATCLY that smell you are talking about!
