Eh.. so my friends outback blew a rear main seal, got it fixed, then 48h later popped another one. Even after extensive diagnostics the shops not sure why. Anyways after fixing it again he was suuuper weary of bringing it on the ice again. So I let him take up the STi this weekend and I brought the RS.
well… it was ****. My last post the conditions were amazing, rubber wasn’t far behind the studded tomes. This event the lake was polished bumpy sheet ice with zero grip. On the first run with the RS I had the awd/drive modes etc etc all shut off. For those who’ve done this they’ll understand but what sometimes happens is the car loses the baseline of what traction is, so the abs system freaks out and doesn’t know if you have grip, don’t have grip, what its Suppose to do. Only way to fix it is to go drive around on pavement for a while but that’s something I couldn’t do.
the lake had 13” ice but the shore was bad. Everyone was allowed 1 on and 1 off for the day. Plus I almost ripped the splitter off hahah
the first day was a write off and frustrating. Good thing the STi was here too so I just jumped in and co drove.
the second day was better, I skipped the timed course and just rotated around the practice course helping out a few friends get faster, trying other people’s cars etc. everything was starting to come together…
well that was until the canyon drive home. A few taxis hit some rocks coming down the hill, but left them in the road. There was a group of us in a row enjoying the road but it was now dark out.
mr2 dodged, BRZ smashed her wheel/tire destroying both, crosstrek drove over them, I smashed them and ffucked some sshit up, my STi behind me drove over em and so did the next Impreza.
I turned the car off immediately cuz I assumed I blew the oil pan. Didn’t see any drips, still had oil pressure so limped it to a pullout
made it home, but there’s definitely some damage. I didn’t have my skidplate on but thank god I had the DMGfab splitter and mounts still there. Smashed the lip, the 3/4 wood, totally bent the 3/16 aluminum plates underneath etc. there’s vibrations now but it’s okay. Looks like it smashed the FMIC too but it still held boost so no leaks? I’ll look at it later when I have time.
