Adam noticed a chip/crack in my windshield when he was installing my w400 package. It was mainly a chip then but has spread almost half way across the windshield now.

The odd thing is he had another customer mention he also had a crack in the same place and was getting a replacement. Then I found this thread where the user has a crack at the "base" of the windshield. http://www.focusrs.org/forum/9-focus-rs-discussions/22441-windshield-specs-2.html#post669194

And another thread about a cracked windshield. http://www.focusrs.org/forum/9-focus-rs-discussions/12113-windshield-replacement.html 2 more users in that thread have a crack in undisclosed locations.

Starting to notice a trend here. The location is odd for a rock chip as it would be a miracle it missed the hood. Not saying it isnt possible but I would be really lucky. New windshield < New paint.

The other Tune+ customer mentioned he heard it crack when the wipers were on. I have no idea when it occurred but assumed it was from a track day even with its location. If you suffered the same maybe we can get ford to look into it. If nobody else did then it must just be a coincidence.

Looks like an impact hit.

I would think if it were a stress related fracture it wouldn't have that cratered look.

Interesting nonetheless.

These windshields are super thin and weak..... They pit really easy too.

When I was removing my EZ Tag from the windshield of my ST after trading it in for the RS, the windshield totally deflected as I pulled on the sticker. I was shocked how much it was deflecting as I was pulling.

You can also make it deflect outwards just by pushing on it with your finger. Kinda scary when you think about it.

I cracked my windshield 15 minutes after purchasing the RS. Literally drove 10 miles plus on the highway and BOOM. Within next 2 hours was cracked at least 24" long. Replacement cost was $800 installed with warranty by good shop.

Did you get a direct replacement for that price? I got the one for a normal Focus because they couldn't find a direct replacement. $319 installed in my driveway

I suspect at that price it wasn't an official Ford product, but an aftermarket unit. When I did a windshield on my Vette it was over $2K because of the heads up display.

I knew a guy who had to have a windshield done in his Lamborghini Aventador, and the total bill was just under.....$50K! I assume it's made of diamonds. I know it had to be shipped in from Italy.

Yea it better be made of some exotic material for that price lol. I have no idea on the price of the oem replacement but there is nothing fancy in the windshield so it shouldn't be too crazy.

I'd still bet a real Ford windshield is close to $1K. Warranty usually uses an aftermarket windshield unless there is a reason they have to use a Ford product.

that's like a quarter of the price of the entire car wtf!
I think an Aventador is more like $400K+ when new, but yeah Lamborghini sucks if you ever need a part. It may be better with a Gallardo or entry level Lambo.

I'm the OP in that windshield specs thread. I'm 99% sure it was a rock that hit my windshield but I didn't notice any marks on my hood where it hit. Very strange. Not sure how much my new glass cost but it was an OEM ST one. Total I paid with insurance was $100.

Yea, the location of the "impact" was very odd. Below the hood. I'm curious if it was done while you had the car in the dealer. Maybe they took the plastic off up there to do some wire tracing for your short? Either way, no deductible in Minnesota for glass! haha.

The windshield may be poorly formed in that area and have a higher stress causing an increase in chipping/cracking in that area.

Anytime your window has a crack in it, it MUST be replaced. It is no longer safe.

Chips can be filled and sealed. But most insurance companies will replace any chips that are in the drivers primary vision field. An example would be a chip anywhere straight ahead of the driver side of the car. Its considered distracting.

The problem with windshield replacements is getting OEM glass instead of the crap they like to put on us.

That was a Carlite OEM Ford windshield ordered from dealer and installed at a window facility. When I ordered it , it was a biatch to get parts guy to help at all since ALL RS parts are VIN based part#s and if the parts guy is an ass looking them up , it wont help. lol

I got my first windshield chip today. Huge rock came out of nowhere. Impact was driver side, above the field of view, probably an inch below the roofline. Brilliant good luck that it didn't smack the roof but there is definitely a chip in the windshield. It makes perfect sense that the corners and perimeter of the windshields are more sensitive to cracks and chips as there is less flex there. I will keep everyone posted as to its status. If a crack develops then there is probably a weakness with this windshield.

Couldnt care less, warranty covers such stuff, and youre bound to get a replacement in 2-4 days.

Lets hope my heated windshield doesnt change that...
RS2 included heated windshield?
