In a way that's good, no one will be kicking themselves for buying a Focus RS and having the Fiesta RS come out a year or two later....

Bit of a shame, the red mock up look sensational.

Think they're afraid it'll cannibalize sales of the FoST as the FiRS would likely come with a FWD layout and have essentially the same power output and dynamic abilities (and probably price) as the FoST, and both are hatchbacks. I could see them RS-ifying the Fusion to slot in above the sport model!

If you think that would happen in the next couple years than i would bet not. I bet we won't see the next RS badged car for another 3-5 years after the MY2017 Focus RS. How about a Fusion ST?

AWD Fusion RS vs AWD Fusion Police Interceptor, how different could they be? Seams like an easy update, just mix the interceptor (3.5 Ecoboost V6) and the sport (body/interior), maybe update the tune and/or add twinster RDU.

You're probably right about that. More likely a Fusion ST. Ford did say the Focus RS is one of 12 new performance models to debut between now and 2020 so I'd bet on some kind of hopped up Fusion above the sport model, if not a full blown RS.

The Fiesta RS would cost too much so this makes sense. The fusion has a sport model coming in 2017 with the 2.7 ecoboost (325hp) from the F150 and AWD. That car will be legit. They just not calling it a ST

I think all of the ST models have been primarily manual (Mondeo, Fiesta, Focus). I haven't seen what the transmission is on the 325hp/350ftlb Fusion Sport, but I'm guessing it's automatic and that may be why they shied away from calling it an ST.

The Fusion ST is (Technically) already a model, it's jut called Mondeo ST and is available in Europe.

Historically though ford did have Escort (replace by Focus) RS's and Sierra (replace by Mondeo/Fusion) RS's out at similar time's, so I can see them doing an RS Mondeo (Fusion), as in theory if they launched a Fusion ST here in NA, wouldn't be a new global model just a new NA model.

They also did the Fiesta RS Turbo and RS1800's too though, so really my thoughts are just me hypothesising as clearly there not doing an RS Fiesta.

Boooooo! Looks like the RS will have to share the garage with the old STi. Really thought ide have both the focus and fiesta RS to go with the raptor.

well, all the rumors were saying the Fiesta RS would not receive the AWD treatment, sooooo you could buy my Fiesta ST (for sale section), throw some power mods in it and 3d print yourself a body kit, boom, custom FiRS!

Or you could buy a one of these :) Fiesta R2 - M-Sport The Cars - Rallying - Motorsport - M-Sport

R1's I think start at 75K and go up from there.

Joking aside though, I would love to build up a Fiesta and maybe in a few years I would consider a FiST as a project car.

Call me an elitist, but I don't want the RS badge on any other car - it's good to be in the preserve of Ford exclusivity.........
