Do you think Ford will make another Focus RS500 towards the end of the current platform's lifespan? 2018/2019MY?

The good news if they did and mimic the last RS500 in terms of upgrades, we will be able to upgrade our RS's to the RS500 with a warranty for those interested. I liked the idea of the RS500 but it seeing how it sold out in 12 hours, I'm not getting my hopes up for the next one.

To be honest, I don't think so! If you consider how long it took to decide to build the RS MK3, I can't believe they will launch a special edition this time.

The good: It would be nice to see what Ford could do with this venture and it would be the ultimate rare turbo 4 Ford.
The bad: There would only be 500 units made and the allocation for North America would probably be about the same that was allocated to the UK, 101 units.
If that were to happen then the other European markets numbers would be trimmed possibly.

I'm pretty sure Ford said they wouldn't ruin the RS by putting in any paddle shifting BS...

That's just the next step in the progression of the hyper hatch. I remember hearing that too and thinking the real reason would be cost. I'm sure a lot of people will be pushing for paddle shifters after they drive the RS and cant shift fast enough.

Then you have something like the C7 Z06 which set the lap record at VIR using the shift it your self version and not the auto. The tenths you save from a DCT or auto are not worth it to some, and it is way more satisfying to master shift points, heel & toe then having a computer do it for you. I have experienced Fords DCT trans in the Focus many times as well and it is rubbish, if one was in the RS it would be a different one no doubt. I would just hate for a bad trans to ruin an amazing car when I know as I driver I could do it just fine and only get better over the course of my ownership

I wasn't sure about DSG until I drove one. My best friend had an E46 M3 with DSG. As hard as I tried, I could never call driving that car fun. Regular manual E46 M3 is a blast to drive. Also driven Audi A3 with DSG as well and was not impressed. Also when heel/toe downshifting is done subconsciously, DSG seriously fights your muscle memory in the corners...

If you drive for fun (the VAST VAST majority of us), do whatever is most fun for you... in my case, that's a manual transmission. I don't care if I can shave tenths or even seconds of a lap time... Additionally for the vast majority of us, our driving level isn't high enough that the type of transmission used is what is limiting faster lap times, work on your driving skills and be sure to have fun

Please correct me if I am wrong but the new RS produces basically the same HP as the original RS500, 345-350HP, thus the RS500 designation was always a tad confusing for me. Other than that I do think the chances of a higher performance RS will happen some day.
What more do you need from a new RS?
I think many owners will raid the Ford Performance catalog, etc. But for the most part the car exceeds nearly all of these owner's abilities. I see a big following of racetards, I might be one of them.
The RS500 is unnecessary here, and I might add is gaudy looking.
However, a Focus RS R that has CF shafts, even better cooling, unique interior and lighter components...? That would win over big here in America. With a little something more to make it unique. Like a CF wheels? Or a rear dual-spoiler, instead of that massive big one. Possibly Ford & GM's new 9speed DCT?

But as of now, the new RS is not even in the hands of people yet, but I suspect is going to be one evil ride. Think BMW M2... but a hatchback. I don't see a "High Performance" version coming soon. I might be wrong, but it won't mirror the RS500 I don't think. I wouldn't want FWD, I want to drift...
