Going to be my winter project. Front bumper off, strip and then repaint all the mesh and then replace...may buy a complete set as eventually they will rust away..

Thanks to this thread, when I walked out of the office I checked my grill.

Long and behold I have rust spots on the fogs and lower grills, and I live in SoCal!

I'll get it checked with the delearship and see if they will cover it under warranty, If not I either going to order a replacement or powder coat/anodize/spray paint/plastidip it.

What's the word on getting it covered? I'm outside the 5 year window, but don't know if there's some kind of rust warranty. My rusty stuff looks sooo baaaad

Looks like these are all the parts
Fog lamp mesh, LH (G1EZ-17B814-B): 2016-2018 Ford Focus Fog Lamp Bezel Insert - Driver's Side (LH) G1EZ-17B814-B | TascaParts.com
Fog lamp mesh, RH (G1EZ-17B814-A): 2016-2018 Ford Focus Fog Lamp Bezel Insert - Passenger Side (RH) G1EZ-17B814-A | TascaParts.com
Lower grille (G1EZ-17K946-C): 2016-2018 Ford Focus Lower Grille G1EZ-17K946-C | TascaParts.com
Upper grille, maybe? (G1EZ-8C299-A): 2016-2018 Ford Focus Upper Grille G1EZ-8C299-A | TascaParts.com

I am surprised upper and lower meshes are separate - I somehow thought it was just one piece

Got mine replaced under warranty within my 3Y/60k km period. Not covered past this treshold even under my full extended warranty. Rust came back pretty much just as bad as before during the following winter.

Still need to perform replacement but there is another option on page 2 of this thread which I am giving one last try:

I’m hoping the powder coated aluminum will hold better over time and at least it will not rust…ordered quickly and endes up buying matte black…dont know if gloss black would have been better but mine have had no shine to them for so long I probably wont notice!!

Even my GF comments about the rusty grilles and she doesnt really care about cars!!

Aha, I thought there was another thread for it too. We should probably create a sticky for this issue when the community works out what the best fix is.

So are you going with that Custom Car Grills mesh? Looks like you have to cut that mesh yourself to size, right?

Perhaps the three threads could be merged too?

Yes I bought and received the custom car grills mesh, still in box havent had time to check it out yet. I didnt measured the stock honeycomb cell size either. It should be impossible to tell any difference unless one would measure and compare between two RS once completed (I hope so…).

I dont see anything more than:
1- Remove bumper and old rusty grilles (bumper removal requires for sure for both center grilles to gain access to retainer clips behind, fog bezel can be removed only if you are dealing with the small ones by the fogs);
2- Trim new grilles, use old parts as a template;
3- Install in reverse order.

All I need is some time otherwise I got it all planned in my mind!!!

Nice! What size of the mesh are you getting? (I'm feeling lazy, and letting you do the experiment here! Haha)

Still need to perform.....
Haha - my dealer literally laughed at me when I suggested they replace these under warranty! He thought I was joking until I explained that others had had them replaced. He wasn't having any of it.....

May try plasti kote/dipping - has anyone else here tried it and got some photos?

If your going to all the trouble of removing to make it look better, plastidip is the last thing I would use on the grills.
It won't last long until it looks like shi7 again.
Do it right, do it once, remove as much rust as possible and use a good paint such as Rustoleum 2X and never have to touch them again.

Sorry for reviving, just noticed this happening to mine. Has the Rust-Oleum worked long term? Not looking forward to pulling the nose off every other year to fix this. 2nd question, is it hard to pull this nose/fascia off? Not bad on my 370Z but haven't seen this being a normal RS project unless swapping intercooler.
