My gains on my amp is all the way low, I don't think I could turn it up as I started to see some distortion on the osilloscope. Have you used a RTA to tune it? Maybe I should find that high pitch frequency and lower it. I haven't tuned it yet because I'm still learning how to do it.

Nah, no RTA for me.... I more follow the “adjust to your ears” path.

this will be showing my age, but is a fun story:

Years and years ago when I had my shop I was mainly a Rockford shop but I was an authorized USD Audio dealer as well (although I only sold a handful of pieces over the years as they were so ‘niche’ back then)

Approaching Spring Break Nationals one year I got a call from them asking if I’d be interested in working their booth with them which warranted an immediate HELL YES

Before the show opened I got a full walkthrough on this beast, although back then it had Macintosh amps, not Crossfire :

I got about 20 mins of a personal listening session and was blown away, but it was pointed out it was tuned to taste at that moment, not an RTA

One song they absolutely loved to tinker around with was Sheryl Crow’s “All I Gotta Do”, if you can dial in that washboard-like-sounding instrument at the beginning, you’ve got it!

I heard that song on a loop the entire weekend, I’ll never forget it and still to this day use that song to this day for tuning and demonstrating.

Thanks for reading, that’s my favorite memory from my time of being in business

That's a pretty cool story! I'll download and try that song. Do you have any tips for tuning? I will do the time alignment and will use an osilloscope to find the distortion level too. Just need advice on the eq. I'm assuming keep lowering and don't increase the gain. I have a Hertz mille legend component and feel the midbass is too low. Haven't done any sound deadening yet. Just wanted to give all the info. Any information will be appreciated.

Im not sure if I have messed up a setting somewhere on the DSR1, because I need to have the car volume set between 15-18 just to get the music loud enough to hear over the road noise.
I know my amp gains are set very conservatively, it just seems I am not getting the volume I was getting prior to the DSR1 install.

I pretty much have all the level settings on the Perfecttune app set to maxiimum, Master Volume, sub level and all the speaker levels in the tuning section. I dont seem to get the output I am after.

I have an oscilloscope coming this week to set my gains up properly, The DSR1 most current firmware, and was setup for the RS on the Idatalink program. I have my bass/mid/treble sliders on the display set to none, so all tone adjustment is through the Perfettune app.

I experienced the same issue and after speaking with a few audio installation shops, this is the nature of working with an external DSP.

The factory audio system had pre-programmed gain along with a crappy EQ.

What oscilloscope did you go with?

Once you get your gains set to a few marks below the clipping point, you can then control loudness from within the DSR-1 software (use individual speaker or pair control, then master volumes).

I picked up a really cheap pocket Oscilloscope off of Amazon. It probably won't even turn on.

Im hoping I just have gains set way too low, I was using my ears to set with tones, but I really didnt know what I was looking for. I really don't like having every setting maxed out, I'd like to have some adjustablility. I thought it might be the "inexpensive" DS18 component speakers I put in, I know they have a fairly low sensitivity rating, but I'm getting virtually no output from my JL CP208LG-W3v3 sub. Thats with the bass knob turned all the way up, but the bass EQ dial on the amp is barely off 0.

I guess I should list my equipment, that might help.

DSR1
Alpine MRV-M500 (500w rms @ 2ohms)
Alpine MRV-F300 (50w rms @ 4 ohms x4)
DS18 GenX 6.5c component set (50w rms 4 ohm sensitivity 86dB Front and rear I know these aren't great, but price was right for the timing)

I’ve seen a view of those units and did consider getting one myself. There’s a similar product in a white casing that someone tested on YouTube. It did perform for the simple task of setting gains, so I’m standing by curiously to see how it works for you.

Last week, I found JL’s process for setting gains via output voltage using a digital multimeter and the recommended settings listed in their help center. Have you searched to see if Alpine posted anything similar?

I just got around to doing this over the weekend and haven’t had a chance go to test the audio output levels, or even see how it impacted my adjusted EQ.

I did have a look at the Alpine site, I didn't see anything but maybe requires a better look.
I was using JL's test tones and I did also try to set gains by voltage, but I feel I am leaving quite a bit of performance on the table.

I have edited my last post.
After discussion with iDatalink as to what was causing my volume level issues, I have come to a happy point in system output volume.

iDatalink suggested restoring the DSR1 to an earlier firmware version then reloading all the firmware in a very specific order.

Embedded device (BLE Module)
Maestro Firmware
Rockford Firmware

All of my original downloads were done like this, but there must have been a glitch somewhere in the data.

I am much happier now.

@MorningZ I noticed that in your original post you said that FENG is still active for you post install of the DSR1, when I installed the DSR1 it seemed to have turned it off, I've been trying to get it enabled again. Tried using forescan to make sure the feng was enabled and it is. Checked wiring and even plugged back in the stock SONY amp and confirmed the FENG works with that installed. But I cannot seem to get it to work with the DSR1. I'm still running the stock exhaust and find it helpful. Is there anything you did with your install that you know of to keep it working? Just curious and taking a shot in the dark here lol.

You can get a multimeter that has a built in oscilloscope for under $40.

The voltage method works great. But without a birthsheet you are leaving stuff on the table. but you're greater than 90% there. So all is not lost.

For $200 the best and easiest may be the SMD device for setting gains. Dead simple but too expensive for my projects

I have had no such trouble... i'm kinda pretty sure USDM models don't require anything to set FORScan (unless you previously specifically messed with things), that's European models that have that feature through it.

I had mine out of the car for a while, when i wanted to sound back, i simply plugged in both plugs and it was back
