Ok, if you were in 6th gear and the actual rev limiter stopped you from accelerating past 120mph, the clutch is slipping, the tire/wheel diameter is much smaller than stock, or the final drive ratio is not stock.

Hummm ... okay ... sounds like a possibility ... but I am clueless on "my key setup".
I've never used the mykey stuff so I'm not sure how to change it, but I would suggest trying to drive your car with the 2nd key that came with it if you haven't already.

There was also two places in Forscan to limit the speed called Adjustable Speed Limiter and Speed Limitation, I would check to see if these are activated .

You could also take it to a dealer and see if they can check for any limiter

MyKey setup may be listed in the owners manual (seem to remember seeing a listing for it---not positive though), and/or a Ford Dealer and Internet should be able to shed some light on that topic. good luck!

the vehicle is 100% stock. .. as far as the clutch slipping >>> no indication of such.
Well if you’re at the rev limiter (ie 6500rpm) in top gear and only seeing 120mph, then the speedometer or speed sensor is “bad”, or the clutch is slipping. The MyKey setting has nothing to do with the rpm limiter, just the road speed.

Edit: Hmmm? The above fault items are actually less likely than you’re not really in 6th gear, but in 4th… 1st thru 4th have a shorter final drive gear set than 5th & 6th that have a taller final drive gear set.

The real problem could also be you’re just a troll!

Around what PSI was the Boost Gauge showing? I noticed you havent actually answered the actual RPM you were at when the cut out happened, perhaps you werent actually at the rev limit as stated but are just speed limited for some reason in the ecu programming??? If the RPM's are actually hitting the rev limiter in 6th gear at 120 than I would think all the other gears should be hitting the rev limiter at much lower speeds than normal.

Either you don't' know what gear you were in, something is really wrong with your clutch (and you don't know that smell), or the car is not 100% stock (ECU parameters included)

Haven't had the experience of hitting the rev limiter on this car yet. I tend to shift rather early with a stock tune as it's power seems to dump off rather early. The Z just sounds mean in higher revs and power is off at 7000, with a 7500 limit, it happens pretty quickly. But again that is usually 3rd or 4th, so may be same if happened in 1st or 2nd.

Not to derail but is the GTA a Alpha Romeo Giulia GTA? Those are nice, the only car comes to mind when I hear GTA.

Edit: I just looked up 89 GTA, I assume you are talking about the Trans Am?
The one in my sig. ITs def not an Alfa. Not that I wouldn't want an Alfa GTA, def would want one.

You were nowhere near redline in 6th @ 120. If you truly were near redline and it cut at 120, there's only one cell on the chart below. That would be 4th gear at the 6700rpm extended redline.

How pathetic ..
Is my math too advanced for you? Every factory RS out there is capable of exceeding 160mph in 6th gear. Top speed is only achieved in 6th gear. And the only gears capable of achieving 120mph are 4th, 5th, and 6th gear. So if you are at or near engine redline, which is 6700rpm (normally 6500rpm) then that means you were in 4th gear. 5th gear would put engine RPM below 5500rpm, and 6th gear even lower.

You've been given several suggestions. You ASKED for them.

Check the ford My Key status, you'll find instructions in the manual.

But short of being in the wrong gear, the only other way for engine RPM to approach Rev Limit at 120mph is either you were in 4th gear, or you have a slipping clutch. But honestly would show up long before 120mph. It is possible, but unlikely, that someone put a tune on the car that has a speed limiter.
