Rev Limit Cuts Engine at 120 mph

4801 Views 92 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  20focusstdriver17
I was on a road trip in my RS thru desert land. I opened-it-up a few times, and each time the rev limiter cut in at 120 mph. Elevation was about 4,000 ft. I expected to be able to go faster than 120 mph!

Any thoughts?

I was in 6th gear ... and I tried it at least 3 times.
R&T tested RS @ 152 mph in 5th gear and 118 mph in 4th gear
Ya shouldnt do that unless you didn’t upshift. Im able to cruise at that speed

I am not an idiot. Know what gear I WAS IN.
I didn’t say you were. I was stating it should not do that unless you did not upshift.
Something is up. Any chance it was a used car? Maybe a valet tune? Those limit boost or speed or rev limit?
Bought the cart new. What is a "valet tune"? I don't track or abuse the vehicle. Seem fine driving with everyday spirited driving under 120 mph.
You sure it’s the rev limiter? What gear were you in?
I was in 6th gear. As I watched digital speedo I saw the rpms qaapproach redline and the engine c
Is your RS stock or Tuned OP?...Stock the RS will rip pas 120...Not sure was going on with yours....
Vehicle is 100% stock.
Is it rev limit or speed limit? Rev will have more of a break up feel the speed limit will be smooth and just not go any faster
There was a sudden loss of power.
My guess is your key is setup as a mykey with a speed limit coded to it
Hummm ... okay ... sounds like a possibility ... but I am clueless on "my key setup".

That is what it sounds like.

OP, find a racetrack try again and use the other key to the car. Don't do these runs on public roads.
I am unclear what you mean by "other key".
If you bought the car new, it's in the owners manual
I will check the manual. Thanks!

I did a quick read about MyKey ...I have never used that function. Will try to clear any settings once I figure out how to do it.
You get 2 fobs.

Thats what he is referring to when he says other key
Okay.

If you read the link I posted above, it will all make sense
The MYKey video shows the maximum restricted speed to be only 80 mph ... I often drive over 80mph and in this instance, I was at 120mph.

What does "OP" mean?

I own a fleet and can set speed limits on my company vehicles. Would you happen to have a tracker on the car?
"Tracker" ... no
Yeah the MyKey feature can program an overall speed limit in the PCM depending on what key fob you use.
The MYKey video shows the maximum restricted speed to be only 80 mph .
There was also two places in Forscan to limit the speed called Adjustable Speed Limiter and Speed Limitation, I would check to see if these are activated .
Way above my pay grade ... I have no idea what Forscan is. But Thanks.
