Ah ha so I can wait until the light comes on?It has a sensor that is supposed to alert you when you need to change the oil. I believe if you have the ford maintenance package, they won't change the oil unless 7.5k miles have passed and something like 10k is expected. But the engine holds 6qts of oil, so it kinda makes sense.
I changed mine at 1.2k, 5k and will change again at next weekend at 10k. After that I may move to 7.5k intervals, especially since it's like 90$ for an oil change if you do it yourself.

I seriously doubt the oil light comes on because of a sensor. I had recently changed my oil when the light came on around 7.5K miles. Go here for the procedure to turn the light off.Dealer told me to wait for the light. The car measures when it needs to have the oil changed based on driving habits.
I was quoted somewhere near $120 at Ford
Doubt doesn't make it untrue. People have had the light come on WAY less than 7.5k when doing track/autoX, and others have had no light until after 10k.I seriously doubt the oil light comes on because of a sensor. IMO it makes it highly improbable. Do you know any of these people who said their light came on early? I had done four very harsh track days (oil temps close to 300 requiring cool down laps mid session) and at least 8 autocross events by the time my change oil light came on. And I drive the car aggressively pretty much all the time. If anyone's change oil light should have come on early, it would be mine.Doubt doesn't make it untrue. I still error on the side of caution and don't wait for the light.
Somthing's not right there. They're doing an oil change for less than the cost of the oil. I wouldn't trust them. I think this is another in a long list of examples why you should never take your car to the dealer to have it serviced.Sticking with 5k interval here, too. I'm fine having my local dealer get it done as they've done well thus far. Last change they did the alignment for free (car was bought out of state) and the oil change for 39.99. It surprised me when I picked it up and even checked the fine print. Motorcraft 5w-50 syn sure enough, so it's been cheaper to let them do it than buy the $9-10/qt stuff myself. Besides, keeps my diligence in their system if/when the inevitable happens. :dread:
You're right. I don't know enough about dealerships or vehicle servicing to know what they're doing.Somthing's not right there. They're doing an oil change for less than the cost of the oil. Okay, I understand everyone likes a shorter interval than the manual ... because ? Because contamination causes premature engine failure and changing the oil more often extends the engine and maybe gasket life? So let's hypothetically say you have a Ford authorized extended service warranty and person (1) always changes at Ford's recommended interval and person (2) changes every 5,000 miles. Is person (2) better off ( except for the extra oil change costs) than person (1) ...assuming they paln to keep their RS for a long time ?Do not wait for the light. While it's an "intelligent oil life monitor" it's designed for people who forget oil needs to be changed and need a reminder. Sort of like TPMS for people who don't look at their tires or check pressures. Not something I'd rely on for a performance car. Just at 1k miles, there was significant metal in the oil and I'd recommend a change.
The manual says 7,500-10,000 miles (check the actual manual, not the supplement)...I stick to 5,000 mile change intervals.
Wow... Why would they use different oil. That's so dumb... Now I'm worried tooIn my second oil change at the dealer, I thought I had insisted strong enough to ensure they used the right Motorcraft 5-50 synthetic oil and when I picked up the car I saw they used a different weight motorcraft synthetic. I made them change it again with the right oil and watched them do it this time. Next time I'll hang around and make sure they do it right from the start. Sometimes you really have to think for people.
