Post HeadGasket Replacement Issues - POLL

Hi All,

After reading, there seems to be a lot of issues after the Head Gasket replacements with oil leak or the new gasket then blowing 6 months down the track. Maybe us banding together to find out numbers will make Ford stand up and take notice of once again wider issues which is how they finalyl recognised and did something about the Head Gaskets in the first place.

So it would be good to see actual numbers of post recall issues., especially how many new engines they are having to farm out.

That list looks off to me, although it could be I'm picky because I once wrote surveys for a living.
Happy to change them, sitting trying to work out poll lists definitely aint my expertise. what do you suggest?
Mine was done at 5644Miles a year ago I'm at 8*** and no problems.

I'm not sure I'm up on issues, but maybe something like this...

Please only respond if you are at least 3 months past the HG "recall" work being completed...
- No related problems
- Oil leak present, but fixed
- Head gasket failed again, and replaced
- Entire head replaced
- Entire engine replaced
- On-going issue, not yet resolved [don't know how to make this a couple specific issues, if appropriate]

Does that look reasonable? As I had no issues after, I have not followed this closely.

Will have to work out how to edit it not. I think 4 options are fine for what we want to capture:

- Oil leak (repaired or not)
- Head gasket failed again, and replaced (including new head)

I dont believe head are getting replaced the second time around, not even sure they are doing gaskets again. It looks to be as though if a headgasket goes after the recall theya re just putting in for new engines. The head isnt really needed as its own numbers, more the fact the gasket went again. Other on-going issues i dont believe are big enough to capture, they seem to be pretty rare and definitely came down to a poor install. If there is something trending we can definitely update the poll.

Mods, how do i updated the poll words to the above?

3 months since new head and gasket. Since then I have had cam timing, timing chain, tensioner and HPFP issues, all due to head gasket job. Now I have severe turbo lag and lack of boost. Only 3000 miles since head gasket. Not happy!
Had a new head and head gasket done April 2018 and the car has run great. Noticed the oil leak late December and had it fixed. Not sure why they mentioned coolant leaking since I didn't mention that and the coolant level hasn't changed at all. Other than that I think everything is good now.

Head gasket replaced at 3k miles. At 16k miles, engine blew and caught on fire!!!!!!!!! Mixed emotions with this car. Basic bolt-ons and Cobb Accessport which was Pro tuned
Had Gasket C installed last October.

Going close to 1500km since.
No issues whatsoever and better performance than new.

I've had the oil leak problems, and depending on what Ford says today after doing another test I may need a new head or engine...
Head and HG replaced last June. No issues. Probably 3k miles since. A little bit longer to be sure for myself, and I'll start bolting on parts and tuning the mafk.
Headgasket replacement completed Feb2018 at 5,700km. Dyno'd Aug2018 at 12,000km at 318whp/331wtq. Currently sits at 28,700km.

Not. A. Single. Problem.

The vocal majority with persistent issues represent the total minority.

About one year and ten thousand miles. Oil leak issues throughout the past year and I had to go to another dealer to get it fixed as original dealer was in denial. Oil leak was fixed about five thousand miles ago and has remained dry since. Last week my coolant reservoir went went from full to min and has been steady at min since. I'll be monitoring it a bit more closely now.

I honestly think it's down to the dealer and mechanic to make or break these recalls, and unfortunately some people chose wrong. In retrospect I sure did and should have taken the hint back when they serviced my ST.

Well so far the hit rate for post HG issues is almost 25%. I'm not at all comfortable with those figures. Add to that the fact that a proportion of the "no issues" people barely lift the hood let alone get under the car and pull the engine tray and have a good inspection at regular intervals so they wouldnt even know if they have an issue. They hit the button and it starts so "I have no issues". Add to that the introduced latent quality issues that can bite you on the arse a few years down the track because they take time to manifest into a problem and I wouldnt be so overtly confident.
But really at the end of the day a 25% problem rate is a disgrace.

I don't know Phil, I'm a skeptic like you, although I don't see this as a 25% failure rate. Currently it's only 21%.

The highly limited survey here has a very small sampling size, and only a binary type of response with no specificity. So, in the 21% listed, we're not even sure what kind of "oil" is leaking, where, or how much. Sure, dealerships suck at taking care of their customers, and their techs may not know their butts from a BOV, and this car may be a bit of a "glass cannon", but hey we see that with all cars, performance or not. If we hypothetically factor out only 2 of the "refailures" in our survey, and chock it up to some other non-HG issue we get 15%.

I have a tiny amount of "dusting" at the bearing out of the PTU, and it hasn't changed since the HG replacement, 46,000 miles ago. I've only had a misfire in cylinder #3 due to a faulty plug in that time. I inspect the car every month or so, and my kid does also (Ford service tech).

And I drive my car over 100 miles/day, hard, WITH the infamous Adam Brunson tune.

So, as been said before, drive it like you stole it.

Or go buy a Prius.

There have been 6,750 examples (25% of 27,000 cars recalled) of post-HG problems? I'd love to see some support of that number. I had mine done about 10,000 miles ago and have had zero issues regularly making 27+ pounds of boost. Glad to be in the 75% I guess.
About 2500 miles on the new headgasket and no issues as of yet. We'll see if that changes when I bring it out of storage and do the first oil change and put some miles on her. (mountuned)

I'm referring to the current rate in the forum poll. This is the post head gasket issues poll thread isnt it?
Who the hell would have the post HG issues numbers globally? I made an argument at the height of the original hysteria about 9 months in, before the recall was even announced and after following 3 world forums very closely that only about 1.5% of cars with the B gasket had failed worldwide and was shouted down for that number being too low.
Numbers, numbers, everyone has their take on numbers:)

The percentage keeps changing as the poll does. I think it was actually around 23.5 whan I posted. Or was it my adding up.
