Trying to determine the market value of this particular RS.
My statement is still generally true. Most people want the features and options. If you have a preference or opinion, great. Just don't speak for all of humanity.
I looked specifically for a car without a sunroof. I'm not planning to race it. It's my personal preference.
It's interesting that there are someone out there who are aware of the potential issues of storing a vehicle. Because most people do not know.If it has sat that much over the years is more likely to need seals and such than one that has been driven regularly though. What prep was done (such as oil fogging of cylinders) was done to prep it for storage, was the car on jack stands? Even if it was in climate-controlled garage, sitting is not what the engine and lubricated parts were designed to do for extended periods of time. Do you have the annual service records? Slick top only matters to someone that plans to race the car in this market right now, and low/high miles is less of a concern to them. Maybe when the car is over 10 years, I'm thinking closer to 15 years, old and some collector is looking for a rarer build spec of the limited editions to buy it could matter, but it's barely over 5 years right now.
GLWS, not a car I'm in the market for right now.
Once again after 67 vehicles owned and some of them being collector vehicles I do not buy into the leaking seals on stored vehicles especially the ones I owned after 1990. I speak for myself personally with my experiences on my collector stored rides and it totaled 20 in all. I live in a ski resort area where salt is down on the hilly roads from Nov. to April. So these vehicles sat in storage the entire time without starting and just on a battery tender. My longest stored ride was my 2004 Mystichrome Cobra that sat for 8 years and only 800 miles driven. No issues with leaking seals and that is back in 2004. Today's seals in cars are even better. Before storage all I did was change to fresh oil, add Stabil 360 or other stabilizer for the gas and increased the tire air pressure by 5-7 psi to prevent tire flat spotting. None of these vehicles ever developed leaking seals at any time since 1990. So others may have had issues but I have not. I have attached a pic of my latest storage unit in my garage that I have used the last 12 years. The pic shows my sold 2014 Shelby GT500 but currently the 2018 RS sits in that storage unit. It's interesting that there are someone out there who are aware of the potential issues of storing a vehicle. Because most people do not know.
Every other week or so, I drive it around the block with AC on and usually run the engine for about 20-30 minutes. The following day I put a trickle charger back on. So cars in my fleet have some maintenance miles on. Most of my stored cars are on lifts and it's even more work because I have to move the car below it as well. When you have multiple of these, it's quite of work and time consuming as well. It's a first-world problem.
When you store a car this way, what type of annual service would be needed other than an oil change?
If I don't have the annual service records, what difference would it make to you on a car you have no intention to purchase other than you being a busybody?
As I stated before this particular RS is for collectors and speculators at this point. And they usually don't plan to drive the vehicle and they are not concerned about the potential issues you mentioned here.
I just find it so hilarious that why would someone be so concerned about how other people store their cars.
Does it bother you in a certain way? How does it affect your daily life and success in your career?
I appreciate your concern on how I should store MY cars.
I personally don't like a sunroof. I never use it so I don't need it. The biggest issue I have with a sunroof is that it places an extra weight (usually around 30-50 lbs.) on the worst possible place on a vehicle. And that affects vehicle dynamics and I'm just not a fan of it. Also, it eventually leaks at some point. A Slick top is a big deal among BMW fanboys and I kind of assumed the same among the RS fanboys as well. I guess I'm wrong here and I've been wrong many times before.
Just because you don't see it and understand it does not mean that it does not work for other people. And that's what makes this world so interesting. Different strokes for different folks.
I'm glad you stored it right. I doesn't really bother me, but if I were listing a car in that state, I would have listed those things so that other collector buyers are aware it was not just driven in the garage and parked for 5 years now. When I didn't see it listed, I was curious. Oil annual is the main maintenance, there are other fluids that list miles/time for changes as well. The cars I had the most exposure to with the seal issues were 60-70s models. Maybe modern seals may have solved those concerns. It's interesting that there are someone out there who are aware of the potential issues of storing a vehicle. Because most people do not know.
