Alrighty folks, our dear friend and fearless track database administrator @Dave-ROR has left our ranks and has bequeathed the track time database thread to me. Unfortunately, there is no way to transfer ownership of the old thread to me so we have to start a third.

The following are links to the previous two:

The rules remain the same, and we're picking up where we left off:

  1. Your submission should be a post below. It should include you screen name, Track name, Track state / country, and your mod list.
  2. Data would be great along with your post. Video, AIM data, official timing - all would be great to submit.

Please comment with your track times! Looking forwards to seeing the RS set times and our members having fun.

This data base should give those of us that attend track events a base line to look at.

First time on the track with my FoRS at Homestead-Miami Speedway infield course and what a great learning curve to get the feel of this car and its AWD mannerisms.

Some traffic in nearly every lap but I was able to squeeze a 1:51 and I know I can do better (sub-1:50s) next event there.

The car is balanced well and likes to rotate.... my biggest gripe albeit not a deal breaker is more pull for top end but it can hold its own in stock form.

The car is stock except for 18x8" wheels on 245/40 Potenzas RE11.

Yesterday at Palm Beach International Raceway... best I could muster on a hot & humid 95 degree day was a 1:36... quick enough for a stock setup.

I'm still on 245/40/18 RE11's on the rears while RE760's on the fronts... a spare set I'm just wearing out asap before I switch to better track tires.

PBIR is a highly-technical 2.0 mile track w/ a pair of long decreasing radius turns... so I blistered my F tires by the end of the day.

On my fastest lap (lap 4), I even blew a turn by understeering a bit on a key turn-in apex (turn 6)... greasy front tires!

Here's a vid... I had to be patient a bit to get a point-by from some these race-prepped cars. Grrr, but all good! :D

Ahah finally got a Race Render video together of Putnam Park. This is my best lap.

1:29, pretty decent. Same as my buddy in his Exige. I got this time about once per session when I was really pushing, took it easy the rest of the time.

Everything is full stock. PSS tires, etc.

Sebring earlier today with Chin Motorsports. 4 sessions and then a happy hour in the end. No RDU limp or issues but as we know the Oil temps do get high although doesn't breach the red mark. It desperately needs more camber! My fastest lap was a 2:41.... I know for sure the car is a sub-:40 with a more experienced driver. And @rever5e was there so I wouldn't be surprised if he had a faster lap. ;)

I got the RS moving pretty good thru many laps.... even tripoding at Turn 17 according to the Miata Spec guys behind me. "Green" is flat out WOT... :D

I was only able to pull some 2:39s (IIRC 2:39.50 was the best) and a bunch of 2:40s this last weekend at Sebring. I didn't have any confidence in the brakes (stock pads). Next time, when I might actually have some confidence in the car, I should be a few seconds faster fairly easily.

Also, the car was hitting 300 degrees oil temp on the 3rd lap every time (as in covering the redline at the very end of the guage) and feels noticably slower - and speed at the end of the back straight showed it to be slower, with the same (well close enough - will examine data later) exist speeds from T16. And I don't like running turbo cars with high oil temps like that, I don't mind in NA cars but not with turbo cars. This thing needs an oil cooler more than anything else currently.

Was at PBIR this past Tues... for Track Night in America. Weather was iffy but the stormfront just stayed outside of the track. We got 2 full dry sessions in although on the 3rd session it started to drizzle. Some portions of the track felt a little greasy so I was like a half second or more off my pace. 1:37's pretty much on clean fast laps I could muster without pushing it too hard/risky... it was still very fun though and mixed it up w/ various cars.... buddies of mine in the GT350 and Z/28 too.

Personal new fastest time at Homestead-Miami Speedway
I easily beat my previous (1:51) fastest lap at Homestead with a current best of 1:45.744 :)

I did a 2-day back-to-back HPDE with the PBOC in the Solo/Instructors grp. Lots of GT4's and they were clearly much faster on the straights. The continuing disappointment is lack of camber. I had 2 new brand new Nexen NFera Sur4's on the front wheels and both my F and R front tires blistered... Homestead has many left turns since we go counter-clockwise so tire temps go high on the right side. Managing tire pressure is key.

I expected the rear to go since I had previous track days and autox with them, but the front blistered on the end of my 2nd day. These are unidirectional so even though I have a square setup (245/40-18) I can only rotate from front to rear. In the end, I'm happy though since many of my clean laps were in the mid 1:40's... and I have improved on some key sections I focused on. No RDU issues whatsoever and Oil temps stayed at approx ~255-260 on my hot runs. Mid 70's in Miami yesterday and clear/blue skies. Beautiful all weekend.

My fastest lap (square setup of Nexen NFera Sur4 245/40-18):

After passing the S2000 Club Racer (modded, tuned, Ohlins coilovers, R888) on lap 7, I was then able to get a clean 1:45 on lap 8.

No RDU issues, no brake issues (like pad transfer or judder. The brakes did soften a little bit over the day. Oil temps under but near 300*F. Front tires' outside shoulders took lots of wear, but they stuck well (hot PSI F 43lbs/R 39lbs) without any greasiness or overheating.

After 18 autocross runs with the Golden Gate Lotus Club on Sunday at Marina, I went to Laguna Seca. Car ran great. Still getting used to the RS after the ST. I had done some 1:57 laps with the ST last year. Was easy with the RS to do 1:54-1:55. My very last lap of the day was the fastest at 1:52.

I had no issues with the car, except the gas tank! Had to fill up after the AM sessions, and get a couple gallons at the end of the day!

Lots of interest in the car from other drivers. Favorite comment of the day was from a corvette driver... glad you hit some traffic so I could catch up !

Ambient temps were good for central Florida since it's not summer anymore.... highest was 81 degrees and low humidity.

Oil temp got to the 3/4 hash mark at most... even during/after a 40-min extended session. No RDU issues at all. It was a fun Saturday at Sebring... not crowded neither. :)

I went to VIR a couple of weeks ago. Didn't push too hard in a lot of places, but had tons of fun. No RDU or oil temp issues (only got to a bit above 3rd notch) but I destroyed the XP12s :( Lots of traffic, but I guess that's what I get for signing up in novice for my first time at VIR, oh well.

Oh, these times were completely stock other than XP12/XP10 pads and upgraded fluid. Forged wheels with PSC2 tires.

Here was VIR full with a 2:23.184 (with traffic):

and VIR Grand (Lighting Lap configuration, I ran a 3:09.9 if you start the lap at the old start/finish as I never got a single clean flying lap all the way to the new S/F location... 3:11.9 if you want to use the new location, silly Fiesta had me on the brakes HARD :( ):

Was back at Homestead yesterday on the FoRS with worn street tires to finally wear out on the track and obviously couldn't beat my fast lap times from Oct. In the last session my friend with a Nitrous Blue and I swapped cars and I managed to clock a 1:47 on 1 clean lap until the black flag came out due to another car going four off. His RS had Cup 2 tires and besides the great grip I liked the crisp steering response.. most of the previous sessions had repeated track traffic so it was kinda difficult to get more than 1 clean lap. Still fun tho...

This past Sat night I did my first night track at Sebring.... it was quite fun although you have to be extra conservative due to the risk. From twilight to dusk to evening darkness, it certainly alters the depth of field and perception... corners come up real fast, much sooner and muscle memory plays a key role. Seasoned track veteran @Dave-ROR was there and also had some fast sessions... pics of his & mine below as well as a short compilation vid of a few of my personal best laps.

My car is still stock including camber and I ran on a worn set of 235/35-19 ContiForceContact tires. Funny thing is I set my fastest laptimes (repetitive :37 to :40's) when it was pitch black out... basically as the night progressed I couldn't see much further than the headlight beams so I just kept it at WOT and braked late... and eyes dilated wide. :D

Yeah 2:35s at Sebring this weekend, 36/37s at night. Cup2's at probably too high pressure (was up to 46psi) and craptastic carbotech front pads. Stock other than the front pads and brake fluid. I'll try to pull a few laps soon.

Yes... but slower lap times due to less grip, obviously. And thus more prone to understeering or oversteer when pushed. I went thru 2 sets of less sticky tires and my fast lap times were easily at least 3-4 seconds behind. Barring slicks, the Cup 2's are still the prime choice but the ContiForceContacts I have on now actually grips very well... I know I can push it harder in some of the corners but I have a tendency to be more conservative than daring when it comes to pushing it 9/10ths or 10/10ths. I have a new set of Yokohama 245/40-18 Advan A13C tires I took off my EvoX and mounted on my 18" wheels so that'll be next to use on the track after my Contis wear out. By spring or summer I may get RE-71R's for the 18" wheels.

Tires make a big impact... it's a key factor. I experienced the same on my other car I tracked before. I haven't tracked my EvoX so I don't know but from driving the two on the streets- I think the RS handles better... it's more firm, puts power down well, and inspires more confidence. My comparisons are stock vs. stock so "mods" are not part of this equation.

I do feel the turbo power of the EvoX whereas the RS is more linear so it's deceiving. The RS needs a tune though to really wake up... it loses breath at the top end especially once I'm pushing triple digit speeds.

Thanks, i think your answer will help me to choose if i go with the RS or keep my S5 and tune it, i feel like i need to tune the RS to get the same perf of the engine as my S5.

Now the S5 is more heavy of about 150pounds but i m wondering to either add coilovers to the s5, a tune to get the 450hp and a set of sticky tires but $$$$ or get the RS and add a tune to it ... i m really torn appart lol

First track event for me in RS. Not used to car yet. Took it easy first time out. Only did half the sessions. Did other competitive events that weekend and had to drive home. Left a lot on the track, especially braking after long straight. Rotors have a slight wobble now. Need to address that. Great handling, great brakes (up to a point), wanting more power! Fun, Fun for sure though!

I agree, my first track day was last year at Big Willow too! I was driving my Mazdaspeed3 back then. My best time was 1:48:671, so I'm hoping I'll beat that this time. I'm running in a low intermediate group this time so hopefully there is less sitting behind people. I'm playing a lot of project cars with my wheel setup on Big Willow so we'll see if that experience translates :)

I'm getting consistently ~1:30 with the Merc A45 AMG. But.. I would never push my car that hard on the track in real life. I'm just trying to get the line down.

Ain't that the truth! Trying to brake with completely dead Carbotechs (zero confidence that I'd actually get slowed down) and trying to preserve my Cup 2s to drive 9 hours home had me taking it easy. I need to go back with better pads and tires I don't care about, lol

What speeds were you getting most of the time? Is this a 3, 4, or 5 gear track?
How many laps total did you get?
Your camera or theirs?

Looks like I got 4 laps with the instructor and 4 without him.
As for speed im not quite sure. Ive been on that track quite a few times. I think the max speed I saw from me is around 102 in the straight areas. Its mainly 4th gear with some 3rd gear sections.

It was my camera.
More west track action from my Focus ST that shows speeds and gear.

After being a spectator at Laguna Seca for over 30 years, I finally made it down there as a driver! Wow, what a fun track. It was my first time driving it and I had just installed the Steeda rear sway bar on Saturday, so it took me a couple of sessions to both learn the track and get use to the increased tail-happiness of the car, but I got the hang of it in my third session. I was a little bummed that I had to leave early and miss the fourth session, but it was getting pretty hot at that point anyway. Additionally, my track tires have 30+ heat cycles in them so they get greasy fairly fast these days -- so I'm not sure I could've bettered my time from session 3 anyway.

Anyway, here's my update:

Nice work Jim! That's a damn fast lap. Well now I definitely need to get back to Laguna soon. Gotta get back to the top of the Laguna leaderboard! :)

How do you like the E30 tune? I know a lot of people swear by Adam's tunes. Do you know approximately how much power you're putting down at the wheel with that tune?

I love the E30 tune, it's a beast, substantially better than the 91 tune. I wouldn't do it without installing the FBM Zeitronix flex fuel sensor and gauge, which I did. Adam shows this chart:

Wow, that's a lot of juice. It's funny, I could actually tell from watching your video, both in terms of sound and visually that the car had better throttle response and got back into the power faster coming out of the corners, especially 2 and 11 -- made me jealous :). That being said, you must have a darn good feel for your car and driving in general because a 1:47 at Laguna is a really good time regardless of the tune. Definitely something to be proud of.

How new are you to HPDE? I'm a relative noob myself -- started back in September and I've done around 10 events now.

This was my fourth time ever, all with the RS. The first was Dec. 26th, 3 at Laguna, one at Sonoma (no video on-board that day :( ). Plus the RS Adrenaline Academy which helped show me the capabilities of the car and how hard I could be braking. I used to race motorcycles back in the 80's but never seriously. But I'm having a blast.

I use Harry's LapTimer in conjunction with a GoPro. For the screenshots of laptimes from the RaceHero app, those are only possible when the HPDE group sponsoring the track day is using transponder timing.

The RS OBD port door hangs down when the port tool is installed, I simply rigged a long rubber band around the door opening and hooked it over my headlight dial - worked like a champ for a few sessions then the module appeared to work loose, so next time I will have a second rubber band to install pulling the module into the OBD port. Easy peasy!

Cool, I'm looking forward to getting to Buttonwillow, maybe in late winter/early spring. Are you going to post up your vid?

Here's my only video of Sunday's HPDE at Sonoma Raceway (was Sears Point). Best lap (2:00.80) starts around 8:11:

No news mods to car except brake fluid flush with Wilwood 600 and Goodridge SS lines. No more soft pedal!

What tire pressure do you run at Thunderhill? Starting cold and then hot.

I can update this again.. but who wants to take it over? Traded in the RS tonight on an SS 1LE so while I'll visit from time to time, it likely won't be enough to keep this remotely updated as track season starts soon.

I'll jump on that grenade. How do we do that? Are you able to simply transfer ownership of the thread somehow?

Thanks for all your effort Dave!

Sorry @Dave-ROR

I saw the PM, got busy and forgot. This sounds like something I'll have to get with Admin about to see if it's possible.

Fantastic video and can't wait to get my '18 out there too! Three questions for you...
1) Stock brake fluid and pads?
2) What equipment/software/app did you use for the data logging and video overlay? It looks great...
3) Last but not least...were you able to take Turn 3 flat out ever? Looked like about 80% throttle in the video. Could never get the cajones to do it in my Audi but was wondering if the RS could had enough downforce/mechanical grip to pull it off.

Cheers

I run them 33 in the front and 36 in the rear cold. They usually end up around 40 and 43 hot. A lot depends on your particular driving style though. I like a lot of rotation because I'm a chronic late braker. For someone who has a smoother approach to braking I might go with square pressures.

NCM motorsports park west course. Complete with mods in my signature. Video to come soon.

My best time was a 1:44.136

This was my first time ever at a track, so I'm about as much of a newbie as possible with this. I do not have a good basis for what a "good" time is at Road America for a streetcar like ours, but I'll throw my time in the hat to start us off. I'm looking forward to more entries from Road America!

Years later here.
But a 2:55 isn’t bad if it’s your first time in track. I was low 3:0x with my Focus ST. But that was on stock everything, including oem pads/fluid.

I’ve never had the RS at RA, but will probably take it one day.

I'm sure this got lost in the mix but my new best time at High Plains Raceway(Full Track) is a 2:08.61 Stock on super streets with my 2018

First track day in one year. Buttonwillow cw13. Changed out my pads to Ferodo DS2500 (recommend them), ss brake lines and motul fluid, and finally got rid of my 29lb wheels! I went with 17.5lb titan7 18x9’s. Unfortunately they came with conti extremecontact sports (340 treadwear) which are great street tires but not much traction on track. Still stock suspension and motor (untuned) with a mountune catback. I was only able to up my time by 2/10ths of a second to 2:08:74. Looking forward to some decent track tires and tuning (someday).

I did a double bill this past weekend at Big Willow and then Streets of Willow in the CCW direction. The car is stock except for pads and fluid, wearing stock MPSS tires. My best laps were 1.41.36 at Big Willow and 1.29.99 at Streets.

Big Willow - 1:41.36 best lap. This one was made by an especially good sector 1 time (turns 1&2) but I didn’t push as hard in sector 3.

Big Willow - 1:41.46. I’ll also post my second best lap because I was slower at the beginning but was over a second quicker in sector 3 which is the scariest and most thrilling part of the track. Also because it came when I finally got past the McLaren 650S that had been holding me up for most of the session :)

Streets of Willow - 1:29.99 best lap. This is from my second session but I don’t have any data from my third or fourth sessions because my phone mount flew off the windshield and broke in half with one piece landing at my feet and the other going out the window :-O Luckily it was my phone that stayed in the car!

Here is video of that unfortunate incident:

I beat my personal best at Palm Beach International Raceway at the SCCA Time Trials for the FL region.
Mods: 93 tune, DSC Sport controller, rear sway bar set to full soft, triple pass radiator, freshly installed OEM pads and rotors, ATE fluid

1:35.9 on end of life, over heat cycled Pirelli slicks
I corded the front left and switched to my daily set

136.9 on Michelin PS4S that eventually got blistered and delamed to a flat spot.

I am working on squeezing every second out of the stock engine and stock tune. Here is my updated time running Falken Azenis RT-660 Tires at High Plains Raceway with the full course configuration. 2:07:10

Real late to this party but has my first real track day ever yesterday. It was a blast at VIR with NASA. I got a 2.36.27 on the full course. Factor stock brake pages and rotors with 26,000 on them and everything else except a set of tires I got. They are MPSS about 10,000 on them. I was pretty happy for my first ever track day!

#24 ·
Was back at VIR this weekend on the full course. Best time was today a 2:21.94 with Hankook RS4s and ferodo ds2500 pads. No traffic, got all my lines hooked up well, and it was my smoothest of the weekend by far! Had a few other low-2:20s too. I’ll try and pull the video tomorrow from my Gopro
