Q: How many years will the RS production run for?

The last run of Ford Focus RS was model year 2009-2011. Will the new RS be 2017-2019? We have yet to hear any comment from Ford or its engineers with regard to how long it will be produced for. It would be great if a member of the press asked about this. Hopefully at the Geneva show next month.

Q: Will there be an extra limited new RS, like the RS500?

In the last model year run of the previous RS, 2011, Ford released an extra limited RS500 (only 500 sold world-wide). The Ford engineers have commented that some modifications to the RS were necessary to make it more conservative looking and therefore satisfy the appetites of a broader global market. We also know that the EcoBoost enginee is almost infinitely tunable and that the engineers have commented its capable of "well in excess of 315hp". To me this leaves room for the engineers to break free of some of the global market contraints of the regular RS with a limited run RS500 (or similar, maybe RS700). This likely wouldn't come until the tail end of the new RS production though. Right?

Honestly it will be based on how well this thing sells. No manufacturer would just cut off a great selling car, but who knows. I see the RS going for longer than a couple years.
As long as it sells better than the ST at first, I'm sure Ford will make as many as they need to supply demand.
^^ I agree and certainly hope this is the case. I absolutely do want the FoRS, but I won't be one of the first in line to buy one.

Me too. I probably wouldn't be able to buy a new one until the 2018 model year, and if they just sell for one year I would be at the mercy of a very small used market. I feel like a 3 year run would probably make sense, probably followed by a 2-3 year gap and then a Fiesta RS.

I don't know if they will do an "RS700", but if they do, it will be right at the end of the run and probably only 100-200 will be sold in the US, so I wouldn't have a chance of getting one even if it would probably be worth it to pay the extra.

I'm with CobbST on this one. I'll wait till the DMU's disappear and see if any issues arise from the first in line guys/gals. Hopefully before summer 2016 I will order mine. To be honest whichever between the RS or Type-R drives better. One of the two will be mine.

The Civic Type-R? Is that coming here officially now? I thought it was just the motor they would put in an Si or something...

what do you mean? the ST was selling very well. And the RS will be significantly more limited production so thye aren't expecting it to outsell the ST

Yeah I'm thinking it will be a similar sales relationship to the WRX and STI. The WRX out sells the STI by quite a lot and its because of price point and availability. Also, I have a feeling the RS will be limited production, but who knows how limited yet...

Probably depends a lot on the demand and profit. :) Hopefully they will be low numbers but enough that we are able to get our hands on them if we want them.
