Interior Rearview Mirror Re-purpose

Hey guys, brand new to the forum and have had my '16 SG RS2 for exactly 1 month today (snagged a showroom model on the last sales day of the year, only way to avoid $5000 mark-up in El Paso), so I'm hoping to pull from the collective wisdom of guys and gals with more ownership time.

Wondering if any '16 owners have found another purpose for the empty plastic housing surrounding the interior rearview mirror base. Part of me looks at that little hole with the plastic cover and thinks it would be the perfect spot to mount/hide a dashcam/GPS sensor, then run the wires up along the edges of the headliner to the interior fusebox. But I don't have a lot of experience with dashcams.

Anyone else think about/try this? Or am I smoking crack...

There isn't room for a dashcam under the plastic cover. There are threads on dashcam installs, radar detector mounts and Gentex auto dimming mirror/homeink conversions. Search the appropriate topic.

Agreed although you can use it hide unsightly wires for a dashcam or detector.
Thanks for sharing, that's exactly the kind of ingenuity that I was hoping to find with this post! Still thinking if I find the right cam (or disassemble/modify the right cam) I would be able to hide it completely in the cover.

Can't post links but the raytis dx1 and spytec k1s are candidates.
