Since there is quite a few of us waiting on the car still and I suspect a lot of us will be using radar detectors has any one who received their car hardwired a radar detector in if so did you go through the fuse box?

I'm guessing there is 12v power at the top windshield interior lights which we may be able to tap into ,as far as a fuse a localized fuse just for the detector{valentine}would guarantee a reliable and safe connection ??

Anyone investigated what's up in the headliner just behind the rear view mirror yet. There is an empty plastic box stuck to the wind shield on mine with a definite open cable run up into the headliner. Guess it's used for one of EU options we couldn't get.

I was able to figure out what the plug into. I used the wiring harness for the moonroof. NOTE that all cars come with this harness regardless if you have a moonroof (I don't). I'll try to post pics in the next few days and note witch colors wires I used for power and ground.
Looking forward to those pics and install tips! Been waiting to hardwire my V1 until I had this thing figured out.

Curious about this too. Is it a molex connector that we could us a mirror tap with?

So no pics ... Did it this morning before work and it was super easy (aka forgot to take pictures :).

So that harness is not used for me. If you splice into the purple wire with a gray stripe (positive) and slice into the the dark gray (negative), that will only give you power when the doors are open or the car is turned on. It'll turn off when the car is off or when the interior lights dim (when you lock the car)

Edit: one thing to remember, the pile of wire your about to shove in there slightly rattles when it's all put back together. My suggestion is to zip tie them to something up there ...

Edit 2: I have to take it all apart tomorrow due to edit #1, I promise pics ... :)

Alright. In picture order.

Pics in order.
1. Pop open the sunglasses holder. Use a tiny flat head screw driver to pop open that little cover (note you have to pop both sides). Then give it a yank.
2. The piece comes out. Unplug it, it put it somewhere it won't get all scratched up.
3. Reach behind the back part and you'll notice that wiring harness (with the red end). Give it a GENTAL pull to come out. There is some adhesive on the wire holding it down, just pull it out (as far out as the pics).
4. Notice I've cut the gray (kinda black) and purple with a GRAY stripe. The purple and gray is POSITIVE and the gray is NEGATIVE. I don't have a moonroof, so I decided to cut these wires (since they don't do anything for me). I used 22-18 gauge wire butts (red tubs in the picture). If you have a moonroof, I suggest using 22-18 gauge wire splices.
5. Tie wrap it all together. Make sure you do a good job (fuse, wire butts, and harness) it all needs to be secure to avoid any noises (I'm anal).
6. Tie wrap it up there. You can see in the pic where I used additional cable ties to that white plastic piece. NOTE, (because in anal) I used 2 sets of ties for the cabling and for tying it to the plastic.
7. Kinda self explanatory. Pull out that black plastic carefully and wire it behind it as you wish.
8. Same deal where it comes out and then goes into the overhead liner.
9. done.

EDIT: pics are sideways sorry. Turn your head!!!!

Thanks for the great info!

It so annoys me they designed the windshield with the sensors in the center like that covering up much of the top center of it, pretty much killing any possible use of a center mounted dash cam and more importantly a rear view mirror and/or center mounted radar detector. This will be one of those things several years from now I will still grumble about every time I get in the car. My Radar detectors have been mounted under the rear view mirrors of my two cars for 8 years now and not once has there been a break in. It blends so well nobody notices. A suction cup mount will be noticed. Remote mounted radar detectors are really expensive and arguably not as good.

Is there constant 12v behind the sunglasses holder anywhere along with the switched power? If so I'm going to re-do my dash cam wiring. :)

without a car I must speculate, but Im 99.99% sure the sunroof power is switched. always has been in my past cars.

someday I might be able to confirm this if noobs stop getting cars before october orders.
