Hello everyone. I've been a long time lurker, I work at a Ford dealership in CA and have been interested in the RS since day one. I fortunately got to order my RS when ordering opened. Like many of others in this forum I have developed an addiction for new info on the RS, I am constantly searching for new information like crack. Its a time consuming addiction but I suppose there are worse things to be addicted to. Anyways Ford updated their esourcebook with quite a bit of information I hadnt seen before. I knew all of you other fellow RS addicts would like this so here's some info you possibly haven't seen yet!

Final Drive Ratio 4.06:1 (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears) 2.95:1(5th, 6th and Reverse gears)

2nd 1.95:1
3rd 1.32:1
4th 1.03:1

Not sure, it's most likely a mix up on either Ford's website or their e-sourcebook. I just copied and pasted the text from there into my post so one of them must be wrong.

All ratios match up except for 6th which looks to be a misprint. 5th and 6th shouldn't have the same gear ratio with the same final drive ratio. I calculated 6th using the same FoST gear ratio.
You are correct, not sure how that happened. I will correct it in the post, for 6th it is 0.94:1

I've seen a couple sources quoting a 13:1 ratio for the rack. Namely this one: 2016 Ford Focus RS: All the Tech Details You Could Ever Want ? News ? Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

I would assume the steering ratios would be the same across the pond, so I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy.

Also, semi nit-pickey, but the CR is listed at 9.37:1 instead of 9.5

I wonder what's actually correct. It seems like we're left to figure out a hell of a lot to ourselves. They should be paying us the 40 grand for the work they don't do :)

can someone explain to me why 5th gear is shorter than 4th? that doesn't make any sense to me
Its a dual mainshaft transmission.

This means that instead of 1 final drive ratio. It has 2 final drive ratios.

Gears 1-4 reside on shaft 1 with a final drive of 4.063:1.
Gears 5,6, and Reverse reside on shaft 2 with a final drive of 2.955:1.

Example 4th and 5th gear.

4th gear @ 6000rpm = 6000 / 1.03 / 4.063 = 1,433.72 RPM at the CV joints.
5th gear @ 6000rpm = 6000 / 1.13 / 2.955 = 1,796.86 RPM at the CV Joints.

How does that translate into speed?

Well, if the Focus RS tire is 25.48" tall. This means that in 1 tire revolution the car travels 80.04".

1,433.72 * 80.04 = 114,754.9in/m = 9,606ft/m = 1.8193 miles/minute.

Times 60 gives you 109.16mph.

Anyone else hate 2nd gear? It always feels so far from 3rd, and that 3-2 downshift takes so much more throttle blip than the 4-3...
