I am surprised I don't see more gauge install threads as the factory gauges are useless.

Sensor less oil and water temp OEM gauges? really?

Doing my research, I only found 1x install thread on these boards?

Great info, but only one?

Has anyone else done this?

I see no gauge pods out there, so I am going to try and fabricate one from a universal pod and that speaker grill.

Is there a better place for the oil temp sensor than a sandwich plate?
Such as an unused dead plugged threaded bung on the block somewhere?

Think I'll go Defi from my JDM days...

I found the lack of support for real gauges to be surprising as well. It seems like a lot of people use their AccessPorts for data acquisition and consider that good enough.

Im not a big fan of a piller gauge pods but if there was a decent center pod I'd look pretty hard at it.

Subscribed. I plan on installing the Mishimoto oil cooler and I'd very much like to have an oil temp sensor. @neox.286 do you have any plans on installing an oil temp sensor in your race build?
I do have plans to run aftermarket gauges, but I have a lot of other things to dial in first so I haven't even begun looking at this part just yet. I would like to run an oil temp sensor so I'll need to do some research into what options I have available. For the record I also am planning to run the Mishimoto oil cooler (it's currently in a box in my living room haha) so my initial thoughts are that maybe there will be a way to tap into the feed/return lines for it?

If only we had the same software on the RS as on the GT350R that provides this information on the display in the dash. Even the Mustang Ecoboost can display boost gauge and information on the dash while a “halo car” like ours has the same software as a base Focus.

I wish I could wait and see what you do. But I have to get my oil cooler installed before my next track day. Last weekend I could only go for ~12 minutes before the oil temp approached 300 and I had to do cool down laps. I guess I can just assume a -30 difference from what the oil temp gauge shows.

yeah unfortunately I'm still months out to even having the car be able to start - let alone get all these things dialed in. but if you do explore a solution please post it up here because I am very curious!

Will do. I like the idea of using the hot side line of the oil cooler for the sensor. The sensor and gauge is definitely on the top of my mod list.

Sandwich plate the easiest way to accomplish this..

Why complicate it unnecessarily?

Just seeing the cooler inlet isn't indicative of the oil temp in the system.

depending on how close to the block you put the sensor on the line it can absolutely be indicative of the engine temp - but for me I'm moreso concerned with getting a proper measurement of how effective the unit itself is as I may or may not keep it if it's a minimal advantage (in which case it's just dead weight)...so I'd like to get a before and after reading on it while running the car hard

EDIT: I'm also just considering options right now - I still haven't even opened the box for my oil cooler yet

I was wondering what I might use the other gauges for if I went with an A pillar gauge stack like @Stiletto posted. It wouldn't be much more work to add one more sensor so I'd have a gauge for the hot and "cold" side of the oil cooler.

true - though for my car running redundant sensors would just be for test purposes since after a few sessions it won't really be needed anymore and it'll be coming out of the car. if you are interested in the delta numbers it's great for that, but it'll be pretty pointless after a pretty short time frame so it might not be worth the money since ultimately the goal is to ensure the system doesn't exceed a certain temperature

Good point. But now that I think about it, it won't be much more money to run a 2nd or 3rd set of wires to the A pillar gauges. Then I'd have wires in the engine bay that I can use for anything I want. Maybe at first use the 2nd set of wires for the cold side of the oil cooler and later use it for something else. Aren't the boost and oil pressures calculated also?

Considering how much of a pain in the ass it is to run wires through the firewall it cannot hurt to have them at the ready if you intend to use them eventually haha

I'm not sure about oil pressure (I doubt it's calculated) but boost is certainly not calculated - it'd be impossible to tune the car if it were

That virtual gauge sounds petty cool, but they still have work to do, on the non obd II side, analog sensors etc.
Doesn't sound like they are all that committed to producing something not out of the CAN BUS for now, that'll be second generation...

I found a guy out of the UK that is going to produce a CF version pod to plug and play on the dash top 3x 52 or 60mm.

He's got drawings done and waiting for pre production samples. Figures he still a few months away from launch.
