Hi Guys,

I need some input on something about these two cat-backs. I have a Borla ATAK at the moment on my stock RS. I'm looking to get the Stage 1 tune from COBB installed. In the requirements section, it states "Optional: COBB Cat-Back". What I need to know is: Is the Borla ATAK is the same (or pretty much) as the COBB Cat-Back or they have major difference ?

A Catback isn’t required for a tune. I believe Cobb just wants you to have an upgraded filter for stage 1. Either way the borla will be just as high flowing as the Cobb Catback if not better. Borla makes awesome products. The stock Catback is still very unrestrictive on the RS and has shown that unless you are heavily modified there isn’t really any power to be had from an aftermarket CB.

There is some power there once you replace the FMIC, intake, piping, etc. Change the DP or the exhaust, really don’t need to do both.

I have the Cobb CBE. I’m very happy with it. No drone, not excessively loud. But when you get on it, you hear it. I will be adding parts in the future and desperately wanted to get rid of the FENG and I needed tactile feedback. I also didn’t want to lose the OEM valve functionality. It’s nice to be able to “creep” through the neighborhood in normal mode early in the morning or more often late at night. Cobb did an outstanding job with this exhaust on this car. Well worth it. I’d buy it again. Pops and crackles in a tunnel or underpass are spectacular now.

In brief, for all practical purposes that statement really just means any higher flowing CBE is optional. But of course, they would market their exhaust to you.
