Hey guys, I'm new to the focus RS forums. I just purchased my stealth grey base model focus RS last week. Yesterday I hit the 1000 mile mark and did an oil change. Today I got curious and decided to remove the oil cap while it's running to see how much blow by it had (if any). I was surprised to find that it had quite a bit of blow by, a decent amount of pressure behind it. I was wondering if this was normal for this engine and if other owners were seeing the same amount. The car only has a high flow air filter on it.

That is normal with this motor along with oil consumption. I live a few miles from the RD department at Dana and they had a rs engine in house last year from ford to monitor oil consumption. Seems the rings and pistons come from different companies. My uncle used to run that place and let me know last summer. So this would also cause blow by. He did say no actual problems arose but it will burn oil.

Please keep in mind this is second hand info. My uncle has been retired for a few years now. But I take it for what it's worth. Every rs owner I know goes through oil. Even if letting it warm up completely before driving. I'm not talking running out of oil consumption but they do consume oil. I have had my dealer document it just in case.

Thanks for the replies guys, I plan on getting the catch can and oil cap breather, but I was hoping to compare what I am experiencing with blow by to other RS owners.

Can anyone take off their oil cap once the car is warm and see if they have a decent amount of air coming out of it like mine?
