!!AVOID ESSLINGER ENGINEERING AT ALL COSTS!! Updated March 2021

From their website "Esslinger Engineering, Esslinger racing, Esslinger Engineering Inc., has been a dominating force in four-cylinder Ford performance products for over forty years"

This time around, the focus RS will receive a built Engine from Esslinger Engineering in California that focus a lot on midget engines for midget cars or speedcars as they are called in Australia. Esslinger Engineering was bought by Bill Buckley from New Zealand some years ago. Buckley also appears to own BSL Racing Ltd and Speedway Racing Ltd.

It took longer than anticipated but at least I am getting a quality build this time around. I will post pics of engine build and later once i get it here in Mexico later in October i will post more pictures of the swap. I like the fact that they test the built engines on their engine dyno to check for leaks and to break-in the engine.

I am expecting 450 WHP anything over is a plus. Some might say a build engine was not needed, i say it depends how long you want it to last at those levels. I am limted by not having ethanol around. Just got 92 OCT and Methanol Injection.

The Engine:

âś… New 2 L Block with 2.3L Internals.
âś… New 2.3 L Cylinder Head.
âś… CNC ported head
âś… Esslinger Stg 3 cams, uppgraded valve springs, retainers, stronger stainless steel intake valves, and aftermarket Inconel exhaust valves.
âś… Billet long rods w/ CA625+ bolts
âś… Race Series Bearings.
âś… HD Esslinger spec JE Pistons
âś… CA625+ Head studs
âś… Pro Seal head gasket
âś… ARP main stud kit
✅ Torqueplate honed “TS” block
âś… Mountune baffled oilpan
âś… Keyed and balance crank shaft
âś… Balance Shaft Delete
âś… Radium Breather plate
âś… All clearences set to Esslinger Engineering specs
âś… New Timing Cover And Timing Components
âś… New Valvecover
âś… New Waterpump
âś… New Oilpump, Pick-up Tube
âś… Brisk Rr14s Sparkplugs
âś… New Oem Crank Sensor

Other Components:

âś… Radium Fuel filter kit
âś… Precision turbo kit
âś… Miltek downpip ( cat delete )
âś… Mountune V2x catback with Mountune hangers
âś… Xtreme twin disk - organic
âś… Mishimoto Oil cooler
âś… ETS Intake
âś… ETS Charge Pipes
âś… Quaife LSD
âś… Gear box with aftermarket carbon syncros and steel cage bearings from Jacks Transmission
âś… ETS intercooler
âś… Turbosmart BOV,
âś… Aquamist Methanol kit.
âś… Radium aux 4 port fuel rail
âś… UPR catch can
âś… Radium crancase catch can
âś… Mountune PTU bracket

Tune:

âś… Will get a custom Tune from Alex @ stratified

SO MUCH FOR A QUALITY BUILD FROM ESSLINGERACING.COM Surprised it even lasted 5,000 KM.

Anyone who can change gears quick will quickly feel e weight of these commuter flywheel weights
Holds momentum off line for rookie drivers plus won’t stall nearly as easily.

The reason maybe good and I’m not disputing what you have written.

But that doesn’t negate the fact they can and do become loose and interfere with the rotating assembly.

Having removed 2 balance shaft assemblies their really isn’t much difference in how it feels threw the steering wheel, pedals or the seat of your butt.

Or people could balance the rotating assembly the old fashioned way (properly) and balance the crank, rods, pistons and flywheel, friction plate and pressure plate as one assembly and it should, would rev super smooth

You can't remove the secondary vibrations even with a perfect balance job on the engine, the secondary vibration is inherent in the design. You can reduce the the magnitude by reducing the weight of the reciprocating components such as rods and pistons and naturally a good balance job. How acceptable the NVH is to the user is a personal thing. One member here @Hank did the balance shaft delete for his track/road car and said he wouldn't recommend it for a DD as it was too vibey but others may be able to live with it. Manufacturers are in the business of cutting every dime from production costs and believe me they wouldn't include a balance shaft assembly if there was next to no benefit. My experience with balance shaft failures is it's often the interference fit drive gears with no keyways and keys that shift under track/racing conditions that leads to dephasing the shafts and failure.

Ciao

I have noticed extra engine vibration since the BS delete but it’s not unacceptable

Just an uppdate!!

It has been a while since the RS has gone out of service.

I picked up the Speed Performance 2.5L TOP DOG stroker engine, XDI EVO Pump and 2,000cc injectors December 23rd. Big shout out to they guys at SpeedPerformance. They have been great every step of the way even before ordering the engine when i was asking them question about my failed engine from Esslinger Engineering and trying to get parts to fix it before i realized the extent of the damage due to Esslingers Fault.

Best Xmass present ever lol. I have it in the yard by the car and will plan to start working on it next week. I washed the car and cleaned up the engine bay as it was covered in spider webs. Pulled the intercooler and cleaned everything. When done, I will have a priest throw some holy water on it and i will be all set lol.

Happy New Year to everyone except Esslinger Engineering. I spread the experience about them anytime i have the opportunity. If you are new to this post, this is what happened to my Esslinger Engineering Engine

I was going through a gallery folder and found this video of first start on the Esslinger Engineering.

At the time I shared on facebook and everyone told me, pull it and send it back. I was told sounds like a diesel engine.

Esslinger however told me it was camphasers and a tune could sort it. I bet ya tje realized at that time and also knew a tune fix would prevent further piston to.valve contact and cross fingers.

⬆!! It’s also a lesson in how not to do business.
Esslinger has been around a very long time. Every business has to eat one once in awhile.
But parts backward…and nothing? That violates more than I can think up.
That about sums it up for me, too.

I have just gone thru a very bad experience with Esslinger also. Bought a Esslinger STAGE3 short block 2+ years ago, new head, Precision Turbo, etc. etc. Had oil usage issues from day 1. Called Brian and tried all the open crankcase vent, etc etc. suggestions. put the best of everything in the build - intercooler, intake, downpipe, exhaust. Ran like a bat out of hell, but smoke and oil usage. I kept thinking it was a turbo and crankcase ventilation issue. After 2 years of fighting it, pulled the engine and tore it down. Piston ring land and Total Seal ring issues, scarred cylinder walls etc. I tried ordering oversized pistons for the long rod setup and have gotten the runaround for many many weeks. Proprietary to Esslinger Racetek told me, so I had no option without replacing very expensive rods. Never could get a firm delivery date after being told it would only take 3-4 weeks. Called them today and now it will be Christmas or later. I gave up and demanded a refund. Brian blamed it on their supplier, Racetek. I just can’t trust anything at this point and am sure my oil usage issues from day 1 go back to their build. Now I have 4 expensive Callie’s long rods I can’t get pistons for. Going back to standard length rods and pistons from trusted suppliers - so I’ll be out another $2 TO $3K by the time I complete build. At least I’ll know what I have by building myself. Esslinger cost me a lot of $ and wasted time/labor. Buyers beware……. Hope to see refund in my account Monday. If not, I’ll let the entire Ecoboost community know on all social media.
