Ok so first start by lightly lifting the panel around the shifter. its setup as a light lift and pull back towards you i simply worked it until it came loose.
next is the ebrake boot thats a simple lift up and pull off. No need to remove the handle. You can if you want but there is no reason too. the next piece is easier
to remove with the glove box open that is the reason for the weird off hand glove box picture. thats the piece removed. a t25 was used to remove the torx that is on the bottom of the
shifter boot area. there are 2 10mm bolts that hold the back of the center console to the car. take those out and set them aside they do have blue loctite on them. Pop the covers
off passenger side interior kick panel. its a simple "xmas tree" type fastener. so just give it a tug. this panel will release if you push it towards the front of the car.
Do the same on the driver side. they are different length "xmas trees". Next comes the air bag indicator that does need to be removed. this was a bit tricky but i started on driverside and pried down. and slowly worked across. the one tab on the passenger side i had to slide my pry tool in there and lift up on the tab for it to completely release. disconnect the plug its
straight forward. there are 2 t25 torx that hold the hvac controls in. next in line is to remove the whole shifter boot and hvac control as 1 unit dont worry. pull up on the boot edges or the tab that held the one t25
you removed first. once the bottom half is free just lift off and unplug the hvac control. there are 2 more 10mm bolts that are holding the center console on. remove those and the 1 t25. on the passenger side there is a large plug with a white bail clip along with a black and grey connector which are usb ports. disconnect those. the bail clip setup is a press the tab down and pull the white bail clip back and it will release the whole setup. they are attached
with simple tabs i just tugged and they were released from the car. now you can lift the center console out of you car. next remove and bring to a safe place. make sure you dont ruin your little led like i did. 4 t20 torx hold the cup holder in.
remove those and pop the wire harness off the bottom of it. Place new one in and reattach with the t20s. flip over admire your hard work reinstall and bam reverse the process. I have 0 rattles and everything fit perfectly.
I hope this helps and this isnt a re post cause man it took alot to write lol. Enjoy let me know if i can be of any further assistance.

Holy smokes, that's a lot of disassembly and then re-assembly. Looks sharp so far.

Waaay nicer when done. It doesn't exactly just pop right in though! Why the hell don't they just come that way? What happened to the world car (like everyone got the same thing?) You know it's the little things someone could have paid attention to and made this car a lot nicer to live with. Kind of like the shifter. Couldn't put solid bushings and a shift arm from Breedt? Or maybe a re designed ford shift arm that does what the Breedt and all the others do? (reduce the throw from 25 - 40%) I just don't get it.

Nice write up and photo walk through. I'll admit, it's quite a lot of plastic to take apart and with my luck I would end up snapping some pieces.

For those that are going to do this swap, it would also be a perfect time to take the new Euro center armrest to an upholsterer and get the side done in alcantra. Then you would eliminate that annoying seat squeak that happens when the armrest rubs against the seat bolster.

Does anyone have a picture of the underside of the armrest? Specifically, the USB module.

Thanks.

They gave us the janky plastic crap behind the rear view mirror(for 2016) but not the better cupholder... smh

Even the US 2017 Focus STs get better cup holders. They have little fingers on the sides like my old 2003 Passat instead of that rubber that over grips and crushes cheap styrofoam coffee cups. The mirror doesn't bother me except for the difficulty in getting an aftermarket self dimming one with homelink...

With all that I had read on the forums I expected to hate the cup holders. For what I drink (cold coffee beverages or ice tea) the cup holders are insanely awesome. Absolutely zero complaints!

Agree with this, mostly. My only complant is, it's 2016 - when are any of the us market vehicles going to get cup holders capable of a Route 44 from Sonic?! With my ranger i have to place them (mine and my wife's) into my center console, defeating my use of the arm rest. Granted I'm not eating or drinking in the RS, but even my wife's '13 focus lacks the storage space for a route 44. Guess it's Ford's way of saying I don't need 48 ounces of green apple flavored sweet tea.
