I'm not gonna go dig up old oil conversations, but I thought Ford had a specific requirement to meet their LSPI issues beyond the SN plus and SP. Just thinking out loud here, not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone specifically.
Yes, they do. The spec for the US is 5W-50 WSS-M2C931-C. if the oil doesn't meet that spec, Ford doesn't recommend it. And neither will the oil company (for example, Mobil 1 does not make an oil that meets this spec. I emailed them to ask if they would still recommend their 5W50 for the RS. They said NO). And they have one that meets API SP spec:

Lots of people will argue that point for some reason, which I've learnt not to bother engaging with. This is just an FYI for someone that's just learning about these cars.
