Figure I'd start a thread about car movies to watch to get through the current measures in place to get through the Coronavirus threat.

Here's my offering:

It's available on Amazon.

Feel free to add your favorite to the list and where you can stream it from.

Bullit is a terrible movie from a plot perspective IMO, but the car chase is classic and great cinematography for its time, but good choice.

Disney's Cars movies are sneaky good and I'm in my 30s, haha.

Just watch a few of the F&F movies a few days go. I prefer the earlier ones. Guilty pleasure of mine. They're on TV all the time so just set a DVR and you'll have them in a few days. I know they are cringey bad at times, but c'mon, y'all know you love them.

American Graffiti is a good one too, not 100% about cars, but awesome cars in it. Looks like you have to purchase on most stream sites for this one.

Dazed and Confused too. Again, not so much about cars, but has good car porn in it, good comedy too. And of course, Matthew McConaughey. I feel like he got the Lincoln sponsorship because of his voice in this movie, haha. This has to be purchased too.

A few others that come to mind: The Italian Job, The Transporter films, Ronin (haven't seen it yet, but heard its great), The Bourne movies have good chase scenes too.

Ronin has some great cars and driving scenes. It's a driving movie wrapped in an action flick with many good/known actors, especially if you can find the shorter version without much of the dialogue.

Driven, if you can suspend disbelief long enough to accept Sylvester Stallone in the role of a former race car driver

Gonna have to disagree with that one. I gave it a chance and sat thru the whole thing, Stallone wasn't the worst of it, just too campy and exaggerated, horrible movie imho. If you are going to go with a campy movie, at least go with one that knows it's a campy movie ie Drive Angry or Deathproof

No one has mentioned Fury Road yet?!

I will say that the following movies have plenty of Car action interspaced with dialogue. In no particularly order.
  • Need for Speed (2014): Yes THAT Need for Speed movie. I was actually surprisingly entertained by it.

  • Speed Racer (2008): This movie really is a gem, even though 100% of the cars are fake I still loved it because its pretty damned original. I was pretty critical when I saw the trailers and now wish I had seen it in the theaters. I have an alert on Fandango now so if it pops back up near me I can see it.

  • Gone in 60 Seconds (2000): The Nicholas Cage Remake. That last chase is 100% real with the exception of the poorly done CGI jump and Cage did most of his own driving. The music is great too.

  • Blues Brothers & Blues Brothers 2000. Both of these movies are just plain epic to watch. Music, Cars, Humor.

  • Cars 1 & 3 (Skip #2). Even though its CGI, the attention to detail is clearly felt and its a great work out for the home theater.

  • Baby Driver. Didn't have as much car action as I'd hoped, but what there was was great.

  • Ronin: Already mentioned, mentioning it again!

  • Transporter 1, 2 & 3. Not a fan of Refueled. Martial Arts, Cars.

  • Thunderbolt (1995): Jackie Chan only car movie I know of.

  • Mad Max: Fury Road. The ENTIRE MOVIE IS ONE LONG CHASE SCENE WITH FLAME THROWING GUITARS!!

  • Rush (2013). James Hunt vs Niki Louda.

  • Cannonball Run (1981). Really, the opening credits alone to this movie are better than MOST movies that claim to be CAR MOVIES. That Lambo being chased by the cops.

  • Vanishing Point (1971). Duh.

  • The Wraith (1986). Charlie Sheen's first movie. Its MOPAR Mecca for most with all of the prototypes and concept stuff you can find in the movie. And it has the Dodge Turbo M4S which is one of my favorite cars of all time!

  • And some of the Fast & Furious movies. Notably 1, 5, & 7 are the ones I enjoy the most. The rest. Meh.
