Prior to this discussion the Focus RS, I never gave a larger gas tank any thought what-so-ever. An excess of horsepower/torque, brakes that perform and don't embarrass, a class leading suspension at the minimum, an integrated headrest for the Recaro seats, not even a thought of Goodyear tires: that's what came to mind. Extra fuel capacity? Yes, I'll gladly take it, but it's not as if I'm always staring at empty when driving my Focus ST, so I hadn't considered increased fuel capacity for the RS. Thanks for giving it some thought.

I sure hope so! The tank on my FoST was less than adequate in less populated areas on road trips.

I wouldn't plan for a big tank. I think CAFE standards will make it smaller to save wight and to squeeze out those extra tenths of a MPG out of the car. I hope I'm wrong.
^^ I hope so, too. Not saying the RS needs a huge tank, but a few more gallons than the FoST's tank would be nice. Maybe something like a 15 gallon tank....hopefully.

There is more stuff in the way back there, but they also talked about a revised floor pan for the RS compared to the ST, so there may be. I wonder if the car will come with a full size spare, I doubt it. :)

Hell just 2 more gallons would be great, the gas mileage wasn't as advertised from my POV but it did ok. at 70-75 mph id get 26 mpg and having another two gallons would be helpful.

I never though I would ever have range anxiety in a petrol vehicle, but I do with the ST on long trips lol. They should have put at least a 14.5 gallon tank in there but like all the good things in life some how the Government seems to ruin them. With the extra weight of AWD it is hard for me to imagine not to mention what has been done with the space for the extra fuel. This is the RS though and we may luck out but I'm not getting my hopes up!

If you look at the reflection of the underside of the car near the rear wheels, you can see the saddle style gas tank and what looks to be the pilot shaft to the rear diff. Looks like we'll get a decent sized tank if that's the case.

I definitely want a BIGGER fuel tank, preferably around 16. My ST has a 12.4, which gets me over 300 miles at best, and the upper 200's, the norm.

I'm averaging around 28 mpg using winter grade fuel, and over 32 w/summer, doing 70 mph w/cruise set, highway. Of course when I hit the throttle, or hit traffic, the mileage goes down.

I looked at the Ford specs on their website and I did see the RS has a larger gas tank than the ST. I believe it was like 2 or 3 gals more.

No pun intended with your version of "Sincerely,"? :D

Gas tank sizes:

ST = 12.4 gallons MPG = 23/32/25 Maximum Range= 285.2 396.8 310
RS = 13.9 gallons MPG = 21/29/23 Maximum Range= 291.9 403.1 319.7

YMMV,
