This is mostly due to cost constraints and demographic (or perception of this car within its demographic)...In America, we mostly have people like @RS ATX (quoted below) who doesn't want extra stuff on his performance car that will raise the price. Multiple internal studies at Ford have most likely concluded that he is the majority demographic in this country, hence, no extra crap that will raise the price on a car and price it out of some people's hands by placing it at a higher price point than the competition.
Then why in God's name do we have a start/stop feature? (Can we disable it?)

I could care less what someone thinks about the car and I could care less if they think I am wasting my money, we all know the Focus RS is going to be worth every penny, but its when someone laughs it bugs me lol. Some people are just ignorant and no matter how you try to describe something, they don't care because "it's a focus". I guess I just have to ignore those people or prove them wrong with a test drive lol
I've been saying for a long time now, "people are arrogant in their ignorance, and ignorant in their arrogance."

We have stop start because it helps Ford's CAFE requirement.

And yes we can disable it. There is a button by the Drive Mode Selector that disables it. Unfortunately, I don't believe it can be permanently disabled.

I for one am not bothered by this because I usually keep the clutch depressed at stoplights, unless I'm sitting there for a while.

Does anyone know the warranty situation with the rear diff clutch packs and "Drift Mode". I feel like I will be stuck with a really big bill if I go "drifting" and the clutches get burned up. Are they like a normal clutch that is a wear and tear item or like a true rear diff where it is covered under warranty
The hardware of the RDU will be covered under warranty.

The RDU has a sort of ticker that tracks the abuse to the rear end. When it hits a certain threshold, the RDU deactivates to prevent damage to the hardware. This happens at the RDU fluid's service interval AND if you rag it too hard for too long without giving it a break (overheating event). Either way, I would not worry about your RDU's hardware, just change the fluid when required and you're good to go!

The RDU does not have a service interval. Ford and GKN have said that it is a zero-maintenance system unless it is tracked/pushed hard.

It has been posted a few times around here already, but Tyrone Johnson has said that they will carry a lifetime warranty as long as the fluid in them is changed when the system requests it. Which should never happen except following something along the lines of 800km of track driving. Drift mode probably counts toward that as well. The important part is that the car has a warning light for RDU fluid changes and you just listen to watch it.
With enough acid you can listen to lights I think.

Yes, purely a help to CAFE requirements.

I have a feeling this can be permanently disabled with a tune sooner or later.

Oh right forgot about that, but I thought that even intermittent spirited driving built up over time would do it as well? That is what I was referring to as the service interval. As someone who will drive this car until the wheels fall off though, I wonder if that means til 100k like many transmissions.

What's a good way to do a quality search using your browser? Someone here had given an example of how to best search this forum and it wasn't from within the forum. ..and of course I don't know where it is!!
