1-3-5 Shift Engagement Issue

Hey guys/gals,

So today after work I hopped in and went to drive away and noticed 1st gear wasn't feeling "fully engaged". So I gave it a go
and it went fine. As I'm going, 3rd and 5th were a little goofy as well. They engaged but barely and I had to hold the stick there
so it didn't pop out. My drive to work this morning was perfectly normal and I haven't had any problems till now. Also there's no
shifting mods either. Anyone know what's going on? I'm thinking adjustment. Either way the dealership will take it in Monday.
I'll keep y'all updated.

(sorry if this is a double post, I searched with no finds)

Have you installed a short throw shifter or done any poking around in that area? It's possible that something has moved around and it's keeping you from fully engaging those three gears.

Edit: Just noticed you said no shifter mods. It's still worth taking a look. You just need to remove the air filter box to get a pretty clear view.

Had the exact same issue.

Take a few minutes and remove the air box. Gives you a clean view of the shift linkage on top the transmission. Turns out, that area likes to catch things. Mine had a rubber grommet from the air box wiggle loose and fall down. I've seen others with this issue that have found walnuts (honestly couldn't even make that up) right there.

With another person going through the gears, watch the linkage and see if anything looks out of place or in the way.

Hope this helps!

I've had this sitting at red lights as well and always end up popping it back out/in of gear until it feels like it is staying in the right way... but sometimes I feel like I'm about to engage 1st halfway into gear. Just over 7k miles

Great advice... I'll take a look this weekend.

There's also linkage adjustment, if something has caused the adjusters to become unlocked and moved, you might have a problem like this. I managed to get mine so out of wack that it wouldn't even engage some gears, and took me a while to figure out what the adjuster actually was. They're little plastic cubes that are in the linkage, they have a tab that pulls out to adjust. If you do screw with it, make sure you know which one is which - there are individual adjusters for horizontal and vertical shifter movement (relative to the shift pattern as you look at it).

Do you spin up the input shaft before selecting 1st gear?

The upper gears have always been problematic in my ST and RS. Its the way the linkage is designed.

Once on a particularly violent use of Launch Control I lost all ability to use the upper gears because something got lodged. I lost the ability to use 1st, 3rd, and 5th completely.

I had to slam on the brakes HARD to dislodge whatever was in there.

Linkage should be adjusted and I'm thinking about the aluminum spacers to replace the grommets.

Guys im having the same problem, so what i did is just unlock the linkage and start a adjusting it by putting it to 4th and lock the adjuster and after that the prob was still there, so i went up for a spin and the problem solved once i reached the 6th.

After this problem solved, i get the same issue were 1, 3, and 5 is so hard to engage but this problem goes when i shift many times back and forward and do the double clutch.

I didn't do the adjustment back then when this problem occurs randomly, so i want a final solution to this.... i don't want it to occurs randomly and disappear by it own after shifting many times, so what i should do or what can i check up for?

What could be the problem here ? Should i remove the air box and get a great look at the linkage?

Have you ever bled the clutch? If so, you might have air in the line.

Otherwise, do a drain and fill on your transmission fluid. You'll thank me later.
