After they said I failed the pressure test, I asked,"that since they found coolant in the cylinders, if they would check for scoring and additional damage?" They said, "yes they would check for additional damage since that was part of the FSA." So no they didn't confirm directly that they found coolant, they told me that it dropped pressure and they would need to order a new head.

So they put 20psi on a hot engine and it dropped pressure? Color me shocked.

For clarification, did they actually say they borescoped it and found liquid, or are you assuming based on other commentary?

I got an update on my car. I'm getting a new cylinder head & gasket to make a long story short. The service manager I'm dealing with was off, but another one told me they just got the head in today, but are waiting on the fuel line. It's nice to have some information now.

My dealer is saying they will only replace the gasket if it fails testing. They say they have gotten a clarification from Ford on this, but I think that's BS.

Does anybody have a link to the step-by-step repair instructions that were provided to dealers? I know a few weeks ago I read the specific procedure to be followed (explains how to do the pressure test, etc) but now I can't find that document in this thread or the prior thread which is now closed. The documents that are stickied just give an "overview" of the service procedure but don't go into detail.

Only a matter of time before a dealer attempts this as a fix for this FSA:

only way ford can fix it is for it to set the parts as required in order to complete the service ticket / request to get compensated.

if they dont order 1 of the 2 kits, they dont get compensated for their time / rental

that will fix it real quick

Thanks, they were helpful and gave me a case number to take to my dealer. I’d still like to find that step-by-step repair instruction though.

I’m also worried that the dealer won’t do a good job now, even if they honor the FSA as Ford has told them to. The service manager was kind of a jerk and wouldn’t even entertain the possibility that my information from a forum was correct and he was wrong. Unfortunately they are the only Ford dealer for 50 miles, and I’m 150 miles from Phoenix which is probably where the nearest competent tech is...

Dealerships seem to be failing in one of two major ways.... refusing to do any repair or doing the pressure test when the engine is still warm.

I'd bet money that the majority of these heads are defective tools or defective technicians. I get the feeling that the pressure test is being done by the oil-change-rejects.
