really appreciate you getting back to me! Great community.

I was hoping for more of a "yer mate only 0.01% of cars fail" or something along those lines haha. I wasnt planning on modding the car heavily, possibly puting an intake on it (noise) and a cat back further down the track. Will this void warranty at all?

I am yet to really get in one a test drive it so I am still on the edge. I am tossing up between the RS or an STI and although I do know the STI EJ has issues, there is alot more known about them and experience is plentiful.

With all that being said if the head does go, how long is usually the turn around? And what are the chances of more issues after replacement?

    Thanks
the intake and exhaust CAN have your warranty voided if Ford decides that's what made your engine fail. It's all about perception in their case. My motor failed with full bolt ons and a tune, similar symptoms to stock motors that have failed as well, but since mine was modded... well, they used that as a fair reason why. This is very black and white... if you want to 100% keep your warranty, DO NOT MOD YOUR RS. I'm not sure how long a motor replacement would take where you are... when I was looking at my options for swapping in a new motor from Ford, it was a 2-4 week downtime.

That being said, I still would pick my RS over a subie any day of the week, and I've driven STi's since 2006. It's an amazing machine, silly fun to drive, and pretty under the radar.

First time posting here and possible rs owner in the next couple weeks; however i have recently been reading alot about the rs head gasket and block issues. This has really detterred me now from getting the car which i really do adore.

I still would love to get it but would like to know about more about the issue. Is there a certain pattern (year) that sees the defect more often? Is there a percentage as to how many have gone bang? And how do i ensure the most that this doesnt happen to me?

    Thanks
Every car has problems. Subbies have their ring land issues, Hondas have their annoying fanboys (also their 2017 F1 engines), etc. You're reading on enthusiast forums about these issues, so expect some Echo Chamber effect here.

At the end of the day, that's what warranties are for... unless you're like many on here (myself included) and just say, "Screw it, I'm modding this anyway... if it blows up, BUILT ENGINE TIME!"

Im sorry.. can someone show me a 17 that had this issue?

And how many have been confirmed faulty?
Last I knew it was only a couple.
This issue has been around since I ordered mine, its very very limited numbers
Now I really donít come here alot anymore so If Im missing an article then I apologize, but I can tell you not buying one because of that is an extremely stupid decision. This car is something different.. and now being an owner, I buy one even if I had to do engine work on it. Be careful who you listen to on a forum. Most people here donít even have the car.

I haven’t seen reference to a 2017 with a 2017 engine build date yet. My Feb 2017 car has a Jan 2017 engine build date with no issues after ~3000 miles.
    Currently:
`11 Ducati 1198SP SuperBike Ducati Corse = The Big Dog
`12 Ducati 1100SP EVO Hypermotard Ducati Corse = The Hooligan
`12 Aprilia RSV4 SuperBike Factory = The Land Rocket
`15 Honda CBR1000RR SP Repsol Superbike = The Last one!
`13 Ford Chassis 36' Winnebago Class A = Home On Wheels
`16 Toyota Prius 4T = The Fuel Miser
`18 Ford F-150 Raptor Lightning Blue = The Super/Fun... Truck!
`17 Ford Focus RS Nitrous Blue = The Super/Fun Car

All have my personal go-fast, brake, & turn mods of course... Hidden Content

Have a March 2017 NB RS1. Engine build date Jan 27, 2017. 2,000 miles. Coolant down about 3 mm. Engine cold, level ground in garage. Could be due to cooler temps. Will just keep checking it.

Somebody posted over from the U.K. Forum this past week. 2017 with build date Dec 15. I think it was on the head gasket resources thread.

I'm a 2017 Dec 1 build date so that wasn't good to hear. But honestly, I think the 2016s failed first because they had been driven more...

without looking hard @Skraight and @SMIK90 are both 17's with around 10,000 miles on them, UK forums have a few, i think its mileage based not year of build, 8-13,000 miles seems to be when most go, my 17 is entering into the 10,000 mile range soon, so we'll see.
    Whats a ST?
