Got around to mounting @JWA s old rack last weekend. And no, I had the matching bike before I bought the car ;P I took my dog down to the local campground that's closed and we got some good exercise.

I dig it. I loved the permanent mounts on my Mazdaspeed 3. Do you mind sharing what the install cost?

Thanks for the Pics Nitro.. This got me thinking.... I check my MS3 rain rails where my Yakima landing pads are mounted. There is a mounting bracket under the rain rails. I'm going to see if I'm able to get the brakets and see if I can flare nut them in place or tack weld. Just thinking out loud.

Do you have some pictures of the damage? I've had my Thule rack on for months and thousands of miles and haven't noticed any damage. I have Suntek ppf under the feet, but I haven't taken the rack off to inspect closely.

I can use wider bars with normal feet too. IMHO you traded ugly removable door frame clips for ugly permanent rails. I'm a lover of Audi avants with rails (oh what I'd do for a C7 RS6 in the US), but I can't imagine drilling my roof for these. I'm glad you're liking it though. That's all that matters and it gives the community another option so cheers to you for that.

Yes, this way would be ideal! You're using individual feet. However, we looked and there was no specific place to mount the feet system under our rain gutter. This means no "quick or easy" way to remove those feet without damaging the seal. Again, you could do this customizing, however, you would be left with the 2" high feet sticking out. With the rail system, you can remove the feet and just the black rails remain.

EDIT: Now you could weld in a thin plate with a threaded end to accept the feet. That could be very cool!

I'd prefer not to discuss the damage here, but look carefully if you remove yours. Hopefully yours is ok. Agreed, using the film under the feet was huge, it was already starting to fold and wrinkle. Dirt, grime, the whole nine yards was getting under there. Who knows how much more the feet would have moved with 2 bikes, skis, cargo box, up there. I posted here as I know many bought this car as a DD year-round car. I've had the car since early July and have looked and researched so many cargo options. When I saw this rail system on a 911, R8, and others, I was sold. For me, it was the replacement to my Audis. Without a usable roofrack, the car becomes one dimensional (again IMO). I felt the rails give me the most versatile options while maintaining a great look. I love going skiing and biking. I love going to the track. Pulling the whole "clip system" rack off every time I wanted to go to an HPDE was a PIA. Plus, every time you pull off the rack, you need to 2x check your measurements and settings before reinstalling. In addition, you really should be pulling the rack (with clips system) off every time you wash your car, especially in the winter.

There is no great rack system that works for this car. Probably the biggest let-down IMO. For as versatile a car this is (any Focus hatch for that matter) to not have a bolt on system is a shame. Hopefully Ford changes this in the future. With that said, the Thule rail system installed by an authorized dealer comes with a lifetime warranty. The damage to window seals, possible dents to the roof, scratches caused by a standard rack system are not.
