Any advise? Have my eye on the grimspeed that uses the tow hook. However I saw cheaper options. Main complaint on the cheap brackets was that they may rub on the paint.

I've had the Grimspeed for almost 2 years and it hasn't moved since I installed it. The adjustability is worth it for me, and it's well-clear of the paint.

If you buy one, drive it hard. Because thrills like these don’t happen often.

For me I would say Cooltech V2 but it's currently unavailable.

If I would buy one right now, I would be checking this one: https://www.focusrs.org/forum/17-foc...ate-mount.html

I've been using this one and I added a couple of furniture pads where it comes closes to the front bumper paint.

The only drawback is that it scrapes a bit due to the low clearance on the RS.

The dealership I got my car from installed this rather than drill holes in the bumper cover. While I appreciate that, the thing also broke in less than three driving days (114 ODO miles).

Did not scrape it nor contact anything. Fell off when I washed it by hand. On that note, it's easy to imagine the stuff it will tear up should it break while driving.

Of course, I may have had a dud. Maybe prolonged highway speeds on the craptastic roads my State considers a highway surface along with the now infamous Focus RS shocks caused the issue. Either way, the design is not bombproof so eventual failure seems possible anyway.

I've been happy with the CoolTech one. I did get a cheap breaker bar and socket to throw next to the tire compressor in the back to be sure it could be removed without much trouble in the event of a tow.

The only drawback is that it scrapes a bit due to the low clearance on the RS.
Another potential drawback is it's mounting location. If using it for code compliance you should take car to know the full code for your state. For example, here in Texas the bottom edge of the plate is required to be at least 12 inches from the road surface (on level ground) with few exceptions. The RS isn't in of the exceptions.

So, while you shouldn't receive a ticket for no front plate while using the mounting location pictured on CJ Pony Part's website, here in Texas (and likely other States) you might be leaving yourself open to other plate related citations.
