    Battery Dead

    Hey guys,

I dropped my car into Ford today to have my bonnet latch replaced (they broke it when replacing the engine). When i picked it up it felt a bit sluggish to start and then i noticed my Trip Odometer was reset. First i was annoyed as i dropped the car off with 60km to go of Petrol, when i started it it was at 0km to go. The distance to empty is always good with not suddenly going to 0 so i assumed my car has been driven a lot.

Anyway, i went to the shops and came back to my car to find the Battery dead. After a long wait for NRMA they tested the battery to find a dead cell. Once jump started i noticed it resets my Trip Odo. This must mean that the battery had also died during its time at Ford. The car just wont restart now. It went to the dealership again with no issues and once again its left with a pain in the ass problem.

My question is our manuals say we have a 12month battery warranty, Yet threads on here from the US guys say their batteries are covered for 3 year or 36k. Being a 2017 build mine is past 12months but i am wondering if others have had battery issues and had it replaced after 12months? just seems odd we are dont get a 3 year warranty on it.

Were you the guy in Canberra who had engine replaced?

    What a nightmare.
I blame the dealership for all your problems.
Get to another dealer and be free of this crap.

    Good luck.

Yup sure am. Was looking forward to seeing the back of them after getting my cable fixed today and now i have a screwed battery.

I know if i go in there they will charge me for a battery since its past 12months. Just dont know why the US gets 3 years. The car wont start at all now after i turn it off so i think i am going to have to go pay for my own new battery which really sucks!

The battery should last between 2 to 3 years. My auto stop/start hasn't worked for a long time now and I'm sure it due to the battery slowly dying. Hardwired dashcam wouldn't help. I'm now at 2 years 8 months ownership and still lovin' it......

I am at 2.5 years. (weekend car only)
Battery works great and auto start stop all working.

Have a charger(c-max) but won't use it till next year after the 3 years to see how it's going.

A bit over a year on mine. The Dealership wont replace it since its over a year and to them changing the bonnet cable has nothing to do with the battery so its not their fault (of course). Looks like i will have to replace it myself and then i will try hit Ford Australia up for it.

Not sure what to replace it with though. Have no reason to go the lightweight route and it seems they can be replaced with the Optima Yellowtops. The yellowtops dont mention anything about EFB or their auto stop/start but Optima themselves recomend it. They also recomend their Red top which i probably think is more the go, the yellow top is deep cycle but a bit over the top. Doesnt appear to be too many options, maybe due to the box size, although i have a new battery (gold Supercharge) out of my VK commodore in it which is working fine, smaller then the box but the bracket is holding it in fine.

Not surprising the dealership won't replace the battery (plus they sound like a bunch of incompetent c**ts)...I wouldn't go a lightweight gel battery as they aren't really up to the rigours of day to day driving in a modern car. just replace the battery with something with a long warranty and move on....and certainly don't go back to that dealership!. FYI, my car is over 2.5 years old and isn't driven daily and the battery is fine (touch wood)....but I always switch the stupid auto stop/start off....good luck with the car. I'm sure it will be OK now.

IIRC our batteries are the AGM type, so you'll need to replace it with that type if you're going to keep the start-stop. I was reading that the start-stop system will take out a flooded lead acid battery rather quickly.

I'm at 2 years with the car and only get start-stop if I top off the battery with a charger. Even after driving 100 or so miles on the highway. Not that I'm missing start-stop too much...
If you buy one, drive it hard. Because thrills like these don’t happen often.

    Friendly FYI

I’ve got 45k miles plus on a Shorai motorsports battery. This is daily commute of 75 miles roun trip , plus lunch. Weekends, well I have kiddos so errands galore. Needless to say only once had an issue which was self inflicted. Lol. Good batteries are just that good . Some like lightweight ones while others don’t. It really comes down to Amp/hr draw. Anything under 80 is going to limit accessories used while engine is off. My car won’t go more than 10days or so non use, non battery tender due to Shorai being 36amp/hr not 90plus like oem. This is mute for most as most will start the car within a week or so max. Some maybe not. Just some info to think about.

Out of curiosity how much is the stock battery by Ford?
To me it looks expensive as it's not the usual size.
