If the OEM switch puts out any power to the BCM or instrument panel, even to light up the LED in the instrument panel, you can run a solid state relay to switch the rear fogs bypassing the BCM all together. @Barroux if you still want to use the OEM switch, this may be a thing but now you have a hole in your steering column.

    or

This may be the solution that we were all looking for. If you do this, you don't have to mess with fighting the BCM. Sorry but I just found this as a thing.

I was expecting to have to run a power line anyway as carmakers often have a USDM wiring loom that's different than the Euro ones. The KF0604D lets you run 4A if that's a thing for you. Input current is 15mA, which shouldn't throw any codes if ran in parallel with other LEDs (it's a LED with photodetector that turns on the relay).
If you buy one, drive it hard. Because thrills like these don’t happen often.

Cool thanks will have to look at this later today!

No worries for the hole in the plastic cover I already planned this to be temporary until someone finds a solution to use the euro switch! I bought a spare at the local yard for 3$ + 3$ access fee (you have to pull the part yourself)!

I’ll have to watch it with sound on to know what this guy did, did not want to disturb anyone where I was at when I saw this!

    This looks promising!

    @phillofoc

I was too excited about this so I took some time to check it now! Is it just me or this guy does not provide info on where the wire was added?

He just wrote in the comments he had to add it but without further details...

There’s only 5 pins to test so maybe I’ll just add a wire to all 5 pins and test them later when I have some time! This would be too good to be true!!

Hoonigan notified everyone about that so it’s not just me!
@phillofoc I rushed back to the garage to try the light switch connector thing. The switch only has 6 pins so I added wires at the remaining three pins (same pins type as the ones for bcm C2280B). None of them provided a switched power source with the rear fog buttons. I thought maybe there was more switches configurations but all the ones I checked on ebay uk have 6 pins too.

I created an account in youtube and asked the guy for more details. In his case he found the switched power source but did not have the annunciator working in the dash... In the meantime I took the switch apart to see how it’s made and searched some fusion/mondeo switches to see if they are different.

The fusion switches have more pins coming out of them although their buttons layout is identical. Maybe that’s how he got his switched power source by adding a wire to the proper pin. This would also match with what the guy did in the fusion forum I posted a while back.

If that’s the case then I guess we wont be able to achieve the same result with our focus switches, or maybe the fusion switch could be used if figuring out where to move our 3 wires/pins to the fusion connector, and then use the output for our rear fog.

See attachments for the fusion vs focus connector size/pins count. And for our switch internal and circuit board.

Darn. Back to the drawing board I suppose. Not that it helps, but the wiring diagram for the focus shows 8 pins for the light switch. All the switching seems to be on the CAN bus to at least the BCM, which makes things more difficult for us. A quick ebay search showed a 14-pin connector for the Mondeos, so not something that we could adapt for our purposes. Well, I'm the proud owner of one of those fancy relays now as I ordered it thinking we were on the right track.

I see a trend in this thread...of people getting excited and buying parts too fast!!

By the time this will be over I’ll have quite a bit of extra parts myself (1 fog light, bcm connectors and a steering colum cover set from a scrapped car, maybe a useless euro light switch, some other switched I bought before I used the nice amazon one, etc)!

But that’s all fun and keeping me busy when I have time to spare so why not! Keep getting excited guys and posting what you find everyone’s input has been very helpful so far! Some day someone will figure it out!

That switch should be fine as far as I could tell looking on the eu parts catalog (I also asked the uk expert and he gets back pretty fast and is spot on, really nice guy)

I ordered sub-revision B, but it's the same HW and SW. I just hope it's not the BCM itself, that would make it a ****ing ***** considering it interfaces with PATS from what I know.

I'm really leaning toward another BCM change though, forscan sometimes being insufficient it might be ucds time. I'm still comparing as-built BCM data, there are quite a few differences and finding single bit changes with no references to the addresses is really a drag and a toss up without sitting in the car and doing each change, restarting the car, seeing the effect, noting it, and then either reverting or moving to the next; its going to be a glorious Neil Armstrong moment, for sure if we get this working lol....just hoping it doesn't end like Apollo 1.
