    Navigation map version update

Has anyone been able to update their nav maps? My car has the 2014 version (a 2016 car) and has no available update. Every time I reach out to Ford, they insist that no update is available and when it comes available, they'll notify me.

I honestly feel like they're setting themselves up for a class action lawsuit for failing to provide usable navigation. I mean the maps were two years out of date when it was new and are now 5 years out of date. The navigation was essentially a bait and switch.

I understand in our cars it was part of a package, but it still added to the cost and I'm sure other models had navigation as its own option...

By the way, this thread isn't meant to incite an argument about the quality of navigation versus apple carplay, or whatever. It's about an option of the car that isn't being supported as it should.

I'm pretty sure that Ford outsources the maps to a 3rd party. So it's not really on Ford.

If you don't want to use google maps or waze, you can try Sygic. I use it in my other cars without nav, and overseas when I travel
    https://www.sygic.com/car-connected-navigation

I like it better than google maps, mostly because of it's offline map download, but I might be in the minority on that one.

That version allows you to plug into Sync 3 and control your phone from the screen. I couldn't get it to work with my car, but then again really didn't try hard. They have 4 map updates a year, a one-time traffic upgrade, and worldwide maps.

It is on Ford though. HERE technologies has continuously updated maps for MyFordTouch and continues to do so and offer updates. They aren't free, they're SD card based, but the maps are updated annually. HERE does a LOT with mapping and Ford is just a sliver of their business. It's not about the maps being updated, it's about Ford making them available on the HDD based SYNC 3.

As far as the google maps, waze, carplay, android auto, etc., all of that works on the standard sync without the cost of the navigation.

Call me crazy, but I'd just like for my short 10 minute trips to not show me driving through fields on the map without plugging my phone in and using the data I pay for monthly when I already paid for navigation with the cost of the car.

    @JSM

Ford will mail out a notice to current owners for SD navi map updates. Last one I saw was for my FiST and it was offered for $149 for the A9 SD card. (grabbed two for < $40 each)

eBay is now offering the A10 SD cards for $34-$36 each currently. Do a search for Ford Navigation SD Card A10

Looks like Ford has outsourced like @phillofoc mentioned.

    Going to the website: https://ford.navigation.com/product-..._US/FordNA/USD

    Here's what you'll see:

Thank you for your interest in a navigation update for your SYNC 3 system.

I feel your pain. I live on an island and it refuses to map across the main bridge which has been there way before computers and HERE existed. its mind numbing.

The Mrs' C-Max has an update available.

We got her's in 2013 and we get the mailer at least once a year to get the SD card. We updated it like once.

it's SD card loaded, not sure how it goes on our RS.

Does Sync3 use SD cards? I know Sync3 does, and the memory space on the nav equipped Sync3 modules is larger than the normal one.

This page says that you need to download map updates to a USB stick to update:
    https://s550.guru/how-to-update-ford...on-maps-to-f7/

I got this from HERE regarding the Sync3 updates

"Thank you for inquiring about HERE Technologies. Although Ford uses our map data, we do not provide SYNC3 support on their behalf. For information or support for SYNC3, please contact your nearest authorized Ford or Lincoln dealership. A map update for this system will not be available through HERE Technologies. We apologize for any inconvenience"

    The mystery continues...
