Still, I would prefer how to replace like on the Evo, you don't need to crumple the filter to fit in.

I changed my cabin filter today and disconnected the cables. After finishing with the filter and replugging in the cables my car was dead. None of my key fobs would work.
Car was towed to the dealer late today. They will look at it tomorrow. Guys be careful when unplugging BCM and SCCM cables.

More later when I get my car back.

Was the battery disconnected before you did this?

Just curious as I had those disconnected a few time while looking for the rear fog output out of the bcm and had no issues. But I did disconnect the battery everytime and reconnected it once I was done.

If you did have the battery disconnect I may have just been lucky doing it so many times without issues.

It must depend on your local climate, because that is nowhere near the number for me. I have been replacing mine every year, so about 10-12k miles, as part of the Ford maintenance package and the cabin gets pretty rank by the end of the full year.

I did not disconnect the battery and that probably was the reason everything went haywire.

Interesting: is the Australian OEM filter different? Looks like this one's got carbon as opposed to the plain filters for the US market

Just to chime in, I changed mine yesterday because of this thread. 14k miles, a little less than 2 years here in the Portland, OR area & my filter was in far worse shape than the OP's. I don't drive the car a huge amount & at home it stays in a garage. At the very least, check your filter.

The 2nd time I replaced mine, I avoided disconnecting anything near the filter. Decided squishing it a bit to maneuver it into position was the easiest approach ( basically did the reverse of how I squeezed the old filter during removal). Seems to have worked out OK.
