So when we change the oil and add 6 qts where will it end up on the dipstick? I am trying to determine if my engine is burning oil.

I'm not sure on that as I have an oil cooler installed on mine, so i put 6.5 quarts in.

I took the road less traveled, and that has made all the difference.

Just remember that for changes, you don't want to put the extra oil in. The line and cooler won't drain when you drain the oil.

Is the 2018 model different - the manual lists 4.7 quarts for an oil change with filter change, and shows 5W-20 as standard even though the oil cap in the engine bay says 5W-50?

I did a change today and put in 5 quarts of Mobile 1 5W-20, but noted when I dumped the old oil into the 5 qt container the new oil came from it overflowed it just a bit so there was over 5 qts in the car.

Dang it - dunce move. I read the manual for the specs and capacities - completely skipped over the "RS Supplement" book to the manual where it clearly says 5.7 quarts of 5W-50.

Guess I'm doing another oil change this week.

This is a great question that I feel the need to respond to. First off, I did the first oil change on my RS at 4,000 miles. That was a couple of months ago. I have a 2018, so it's still fairly new. I sent a sample to Blackstone Labs for analysis. They wrote back to say that everything looked good, for break-in oil; however, they reported that the viscosity was on the low side for 5W-50. This sounds like a familiar theme? I chose to refill the crankcase with Amsoil Signature 5W-50 full-synthetic oil. Although it doesn't have that strange certification that Ford calls for, it does meet the certification for the Shelby GT 500 and 350? Both of those cars spec a 5W-50 motor oil; mostly to prevent viscosity breakdown during track use. The Focus RS is the same spec. As far as oil filters go, I've done a ton of research and determined that the Wix 51516XP is a great fit for the RS. I started this research when trying to find the best oil filter for my 2015 Ecoboost Mustang. I spend some time, pouring through the Wix product specification catalog, to find a filter that has the same thread size and gasket diameter as the factory filter. And when it comes to spin-on oil filters, that's all that really matters. You want the thing to screw on properly and the gasket to seal against the oil filter adapter on the engine block. The beauty of this filter is that it's longer that any other filter that is spec'ed for this car. Consequently, you can put a full six quarts in the crankcase and the dipstick reading will be perfect! As this filter is made out of a synthetic filter media, it's better at keeping the oil clean. Another side benefit of using this filter is that I've noticed slightly higher oil pressure, upon startup, on both the RS and the Mustang. That has to be a good thing! So there you have it. My two cents worth of oil and oil filter options for the Focus RS.

Please double check the filter torque. My info says 15Nm = 11 lb.ft.

Would this oil filter be okay to use? I just went into a local PartSource and asked for something compatible with the vehicle. I think they looked up 2.3l EB after the year/make/model...
